CLOSED: Large brown and orange spider.. what is it??

Canton, OH

There is a spider living in my garage that has me freaked out. It has a little head with a large (about the size of a 50 cent peice) back end. The back end is brown with orange spots. There was no way I was getting close enough to get a picture. It eventually moved from my garage to the side of my house last summer. Haven't seen it since winter started but I'm afraid of it getting in. I've searched google and the spider index on here, but haven't yet seen it. Doesn't help that I'm terribly afraid of spiders and can't stand to look at pictures of them for too long lol. If anyone can tell me what it is, I would appreciate it. I have 6 kids ranging from 13 to 3 and I'd hate for one of them to come face to face with this big guy.

By the way, I forgot to mention that I live right in front of the railroad tracks. So this spider could of hopped off the train from anywhere.

Whatever it is, I can assure you that from your description it is not dangerous. It most likely was a female orb weaver that would not survive in the garage over winter. Look at the images at http://tinyurl.com/9l2hno to see if any bear some resemblance to your 'guest.'

YES! That is exactly it. Thank you!
