They're here!! (Orioles)

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Wait for the orioles every spring and they were late arriving this year, but saw a male on the feeder this morning!

It's windy as heck here, folks!

Is it that time again already? wow...

Mine should be here in a few weeks.....still too cold at night, but it hit 78 here today!!

It's finally above 40 in the early mornings here - and today it got up to 90 in our microclimate!

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Was windy here too. No orioles here yet. Soon?
Lots of frogs/toads croaking. Even got tadpoles in my fountain! Rats!

I went to empty a bucket full of water the other day and it came alive with taddies! Have to take it down to the pond. We have at least one frog that lives in the fountain right outside our bedroom window. Evidently, his lady friends have been visiting.

The oaks are putting on their pollen sacs, as are the pines, they should be done before RU, KC.
I'm getting a real kick out of watching the birds build nests.
The Honey Locust is starting to bloom. I need to take photos! Maybe tomorrow.
Been working hard transplanting some things that have to go into the ground. Now is the time for me to plant, if I want them to get a good start before the real heat hits.
We need some foggy days! Some drizzle, and a bit more rain or everything will bloom out too fast this year. By everything I mean everything that I don't water. I am worried about the wildflowers. Have to go see if any of those poppies I sowed survived the flood.
I think spring isn't going to wait for the calendar this year.

SW - I was thinking of you and your poppies yesterday and wondered if they had come up. Such nice displays of wildflowers seen from freeways right now.

There were frogs singing way early this year, January, but now that you brought it up, I have not been hearing them anymore. No water source here, and thought neighbor's pond dried up but that is where their song came from.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Frogs/toads are as loud as all get out here. I got tadpoles in my fountain. Sigh . . .
I should walk up the hill, to look for those poppies, but so far all I see are the regular wildflowers. I'm stubborn and I'll keep seeding til I die, to re-introduce them poppies. Some of the freeway poppies are beautiful . . .
I really just want one more good (not real heavy) rain before they start dying. Poppies will keep flowering all summer if they get enough water.
Speaking of which, I'm still running around emptying containers that collected rain water, I don't want any mosquitos. They are already breeding and they found some carrying the West Nile Virus in LA, recently. At least that is what I heard on the news last night.
Anyone need mosquito fish for their pond should call vector control, or me. I got lots, and I even give them to the neighbor that doesn't like me, just to make sure their mosquitos don't bite me!
Although, I usually have DH make the delivery. LOL!
I guess Spring didn't want to wait til tomorrow.
Tomorrow is the equinox. The day is the same length as the night. Yippee!
Got to go for now, and work out in the gh.
