I know it's a Praying Mantis but can anyone be more specific? I have them by the 20's in my garden and are very interesting to watch feeding on flies etc. This fly was gone in 4 mins!

Fascinating but macabre.

The adult mantis appears to be a Sphodromantis sp.; possibly Sphodromantis lineola - see http://tinyurl.com/yhha29j for an image.
suunto, can you check your link? I'm not getting a good URL.
Thanks!
I just tried it, and it worked fine for me. If you try again and it doesn't work, just Google images for "Sphodromantis lineola"
I'm not sure that I understand. Did you get an 'Access Denied' message for the http://tinyurl.com/yhha29j URL or the http://images.google.com/images?q=Sphodromantis lineola imag... one? From the latter, you should have been able to view http://tolweb.org/Sphodromantis/12787 which essentially is the same image as the one I referenced earlier.
This is the link that I got the access denied: http://tinyurl.com/yhha29j
The other page opened fine and all of the images were viewable.
Puzzling. I just tried opening the link again, both from your message as well as from mine, and both worked fine for me!
Hmm...odd.
These links usually open just fine for me, but apparently this one doesn't like something about my system.
FYI - http://tinyurl.com/yhha29j doesn't open for me either.
Helen
suunto, thank-you very much for your id.
