Another nice day in SoCal....what we do on Saturdays...

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

And every other day we can get away....wentout to Borrego Springs and then up to, of course, Julian. First, I finally got a pic of the windmill I love out in Rainbow Canyon. I think these people are restoring windmills 'cause they have some neat ones they're working on. I'd love to get Jer interested in this since I love windmills and lightning rods....

I love these metal work sculptures out in the desert...Jer meets the Mastodon...

More mastodons...I think they look more like mastodons than elephants, anyway, so I'm assuming....

Great pics, Sherry! Love to see Ocotillo in bloom - I think we need some.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

We passed two ocotillo that were loaded with bloom, but couldn't stop there.....I really love the ocotillo and the weird thing is I'm starting to think I could live in the desert and I've always hated the desert...of course that could be because I spent two years in Yuma years ago...yuck.

We were in Ocotillo Wells in Jan. It was so nice and warm already, can't imagine it in summer!

It's been about 30 years since I last went to Anza Borrego. Those metal sculptures must have been sometime after that. What is the story behind them? Now I have a reason (or many reasons) to take another trip out to that part of California. Enjoyed the photos!

wcgypsy,
Lovely excursion for you! I'm happy to see you are getting out and taking photos. It makes me smile.
What is the story on all those metal critters? I've seen them and wondered, but you know how my DH drives, (too fast). LOL!
The barrel cactus looks great, and DH says more wildflowers are blooming. He keeps promising to take me out to see them, but we haven't had a chance yet to go. Sigh.
Thanks for letting me live vicariously through your photos! : - )

Soils, you should come down for the round-up next month!

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

I would so love to join you guys for the roundup, but I have a visitor staying with me for a few months who is expecting a baby on April 7th and will be staying until towards the end of May. I will be sticking close to home for a bit, but maybe the next one. I have been in California for over 50 years, and I have yet to see the desert spring blooms. One of these days........
