CLOSED: Various birds from Islands of Hawaii

Keaau, HI

Yes, the chicken looking bird is a Jungle Fowl Hen, Gallus gallus.

The last photo is the Nene Goose, Branta sandvicensis. The endangered State Bird of Hawai'i.

You easily recognize the Nene from the Canadian Goose by its beige furrowed neck. The Canadian has a solid black neck.

I just want to hug those Nenes!!! lol

Bet they'd bite!

Many thanks Dave for your help. Ardesia, agreed I would love to see one of those gorgeous 'Common Pheasants' too. LOL, Kim you and many of us would love the Nenes! I looked, I looked but wasn't so lucky to find any while I was there. Here is another delight; while in Hawaii, I discovered two different cardinals. Here is one of the two.

The Nene Geese are curious and may come close to you to check you out, but tend to get a little ticked-off if you try to follow them.

What great picture. I have a couple shots of them but not a close up like you got. If you didn't kow what you were looking for you could not see them. What kind of camera were you using?

Thank you, I used the Panasonix Lumix. I'm glad you've enjoyed the pics. ardesia.
