too few.... YES. and i did find my WORD doc that listed all the seeds i got and from whom.
so they are 2 different seeds.
and i ams Sooooooo stoked about those Dwarf Queens that have germinated. found an image on Parks Seed site... stunning...
ants... if i get seeds from "Midget" i'll try to keep you in mind... but remind me next year.
I did have one little plant last year, and i dont recall if i got seeds or just sprinkled them on the ground.
but i had some left in the envie from Tuinker.
oh Lea ... jsut kick me in the keister if they dont germinate... .LOL
Im thinking there are just a few plants i may need to buy... that one and Black & Blue... second year trying those seeds... zip last year.
Seed Swap & Chat # 54 sowing and growing
Hold on with the buying Terese I have seeds to the BB's too they usually germinate pretty good for me just need to get my butt in gear and get these seeds to soaking and planting for sure LOL
That's a pretty flower the Blue Spires what is the foliage like toofew I may have to ask for some of those for next year is it the foliage like most of the salvias rough and not much, I like the fuller plants do you have a picture of the foliage along with the plant by any chance?
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/191337/
Lea -- here is the Dwarf Queen....
http://www.parkseed.com/gardening/PD/1802/
Those are pretty too! Reminds me of my veronica in bloom :) That's an old seed isn't it seems like that one has been out since May Night maybe?
I have no idea... i think i got the seeds from ClanCampbell. I used the seed tag from the baggie for the seed sell... wrapped it around a toothpick... no name on it either. but that was the best i could figure out. as she was sending me "sylvestris and Rose Queen Salvias"
Lea, they (s. blue spires) were trade seeds. I'm hoping some grow for me.
tcs, I got some of the Salvia blue queen seeds either this or last year from the piggy swap. Had high germination.
I did not count the seeds, but put them all in that 'cell' quite a few have already 'popped' ... depending on how many seedlings there are, i may try to separate them into 2 or more 'portions'. says mounding habit and 12" high... perfect size.
Oh I wasn't looking for more seeds to sow was just curious but will have to hit someone up for some seeds next year :)
My candytuft is getting ready out in the jugs to germinate they are all puffed up :) I planted some in betwween my daylilies and only a couple of plants made it back last year so I need to figure out something else for them there, these seeds are from Ansonfan I need to start another jug of them too!
My wall flowers are up must have come up this weekend :) Forget who had those they were in one of those envelopes made out of a magizine was it Maozamom? Wish I could remember what color they are lol I think these were from last year I'm starting a lot from last year that I couldn't get to :))
Lea -- the English Wallfowers I had were a bright yellow... first thing blooming and could see them from 200' away.
and i have gotten magazine folded envies from Mao before....
**yawn** i need a nap. another gloomy day here. I wonder where the sun is -- those darned weather liars.
I'm just hoping for another color Terese I have the yellow ones too :) That's all the seeds I've ever seen around really but the yellow is good for me this year too :)
I think every seed from toofew Dreams Midnight petunias germinated they are looking very nice :)) My neighbor is already asking for those she had them last year and loved them.
It's coudy here too no sun I think Friday is suppose to be nice the neighbor and I are planning on washing pots out from last years plantings in them, she got laid off so I have someone to share planting with this year lol She's the one I usually water her plants while she is at work because she forgets about them she's all gun ho this year lol I'm trying to talk her into planting more of her yard this year.
Lea, glad to hear the petunias are germinating. I'm not growing any of the midnights this year since I went in with lala's tiny co-op to buy petunia seeds. I've got a couple of each one of those going.
It was cloudy here today till about 2pm, then out came the sun. Sunny and 52 degrees.
I just planted some Yvonne's tall red salvia. Just love those.
tcs, do your Whopper-lighthouse salvias look like Yvonnes? I've always wondered about that.
Kitchen counters, table, and floor are now clean. Hurray.
LOL,
Yall on a roll today think spring fever finally knocking heavy for all of us.
Kistuart, I put my texas star hibious out few days ago and some brugs had in garage , really think if it is perennials can go ahead and put out a while each day have some that Ella told me to go ahead and start hardening off like rudbeckia mountain bluet, and few milk weed , with the crazy weather it hard to time outside time to bring in time.
Gemini-sage and ansonfan, thanks for all the info on the lions tail. Have decided to place them and these over grown tomatoes on top shelf out from under the light and leave ceiling light on for them , now going behind all and keep turning it back on for awhile but am gonna start to harden the tomato's off also. That is after this I hope last transplant. Really jumped the gun on them . But Critter was right 6 weeks before planting out. LOL
Lost what salvia's I was doing so gonna try some more, Think gonna be May before can put out but will start hardening off in April.
Carolyn
tcs, I read the infor. at Parks for the whopper lighthouse. It says they grow in shade????? Please, please let me know if they BLOOM in the shade. lol
toofew... i got the seeds in the swap, so i have no idea yet. I can let you know. [I'll make a note to make note of how it goes]
Hmmmm - cant find it listed who i got them from. I'l lhave to check the baggie.
turns out the Dwarf Blue Queen came from Hemo [Angie]
I found my first seedlings... they look a few days old.
I think the plant tag read - Silver Carpet... but didnt see that in my spreadsheet.
went back out to look and found 2 more that must have germinated today.
Lemon Mint, Monarda
NoID Monarda Bee Balm, from Ansofan, 2008
Hmm -- trying to research that first one. The plant tag says Silver Carpet, but i don't think i have that seed. My notebook says Snow-in-summer ... so that is what it must be. it shows that I used all the seeds, but i'll have ot look for the sheet of paper that was in the bag ... i usually save those for a while.
TCS,
how long did it take for your lemon mint and did you put under lights or WS them??
Carolyn
Lemon Mint.... WS. sown on 1/7 but we have been COLD.
I find Monarda germinates pretty quickly once it gets warmer. I do not think we have hit the 60's yet this season. should get sunshine by tomorrow... mid-upper 50's til Friday, then back to the 40's.
Thanks TCS,
Think maybe will throw some out in 2 liter jug should be warm enough shortly to get them going really not wanting to start lot in the house right now , should be little warmer in next 4 weeks and want to do as much as I can outside wish I would have WS this year hopefully next year.
Carolyn
I often keep "winter sowing" right through spring... except for seeds which definitely need the cold stratification, most do just fine with being sown now. The freeze/cold cycles of winter sowing also help with seeds that have tough seed coats, but with those you can still soak and/or scarify to help them germinate if you sow them in early spring. I get a lot of germination in my containers in April & May, regardless of whether I sowed the seeds in January or March. :-)
Thanks Critter,
Hey good deal will keep me going here and really want to do some thing's for my great grand that loves to pick flowers was thinking of cutting 2 liter bottles in half and turning top upside down for drainage and she can put on her porch and have flowers to pick during summer cause they moved into an apartment with 2 enclosed porch's. But she is 4 and likes her tomatoes and bell peppers and cucumber's and her pretty flowers . Just hope porchs have enough sun light for them . Gonna get her some zinna's going cause she can pick away , her she picks lots and her Dad told me shouldn't let her cause when they got land she wasn't gonna be picking. Told him my mother made me allow my kids to pick a flower if they wanted because God would replenis it more and she was so right.
But sometimes there are thinngs I have to say no about if I think they will harm her.
Lol here I running my mouth to much but thanks.
Carolyn
Ella,
Can you tell me how tall the Gilia Tricolors get? There's a
really wide range that I've seen in different sources. Some say
18" and other say to 4'. Need to know where these are going
to go in my garden.
Thanks
zinnias... oh yes, such fun to pick! I may have mentioned this before, but I'm planning on sowing a lot of zinnias this summer, including shorter ones in a row at the front edge of the veggie garden, together with Lemon Gem marigolds... Little Bit will have such fun!
I can't wait to see Little Bit surrounded with your flowers!
I can't keep up! So much chat all of a sudden. We've got nice weather here, so I'm trying to get my shed finished painting. Finally got all the WS containers done. Have 39 of them germinated so far!
As for what's up inside, that I might like to shove out the door a little early...I'm thinking about daisies, balloon flower, ice plant, candytuft, gazania, milkweed, heliopsis, rue, dianthus, and maybe delphinium? Also planted my Scarlet Runner beans way too early (book says 4-6 weeks... mistake!) They came up and were 6" tall overnight, now they're a foot, and nowhere to go! Also too big are Vigna Leuteola and Lab Lab purpurea. Any thoughts on these would be helpful! I can put them on the deck up against the house...
Went ahead and got a labeler yesterday. Staples has the Brother PT 1090 with an instant rebate that brings it down to $14(orig. 34)! Their tape is too expensive, so I'll get that online somewhere.
Kelly -- i've been eyeing a P-Touch for some time now too. where did you find it with the rebate?
Finally, able to get back on Dg and get the page to load. Even with foxfire just mainly watch the page loader go round and round and round.
Today is the day when we have equal amounts of sun and dark 12 hours of each. Just wish we had nice sun all them hours. Stil so cloudy and dreary here, I have plants stretching trying to find a bit of sun. Spent most of the weekend off line waitign for son to call. Finally he got through just as I was abotu to plug computer back in. So I happy. : )
Cris... Sorry don't have any information on them. : (
Shoot I still have stuff in the house that needs transplanted and the stuff outside already to be transplanted again. Gonna try and get a little bit of it done today if we get some warm weather. Will be offline most of the day. Gotta update my virus protection and that usually take s 6 hours with dial up. I just hope I don't time out in between.
I need to get Dahlias transplanted too and pinched back. Everything needs a good dose of fertilizer too. need to send off for another little fert pump thing that hooks to the water hose. Mine broke and now it all hand fertilizing. ugg.
Ella hope your son is doing good glad you got to talk to him :)
It's suppose to be so nice here today so far it's cloudy but the sun is going to shine and in the 60's I'll have to put my jugs in the garage to keep them out of the sun :)
I've had 16 oz. cups sitting in water since about 3:00 yesterday and still they haven't soaked any water up I need to get some transplanting done in them! Those are the ones I'm going to sell need to get my geraniums and lisanthus in them. I have this trouble every time I use these not sure why they won't soak the water up they have three big holes in the bottom of them. I was using warm water too and now it's ice cold lol
You all talked up a storm yesterday I need to go get caught up lol
Say a little prayer if you will for my room mate today he needs to have a MRI done on his lower half today he's been having sharp pains in his stomach he takes so many drugs because he has a rare form of MS I think it is called RS it's got something to do with his nerves he may go into the hospital today after his test he said he couldn't go into the hospital today because he plays pool on Tues. nights and they are suppose to take a group picture of them tonite :) Pain management had put him on methadone and zannix a deadly combination about a month ago he went off of the pills himself when he found that out but has been having the pain every since he started the methadone. He went back to his regular doctor after finding that out and he is sending him for test today. That methadone tore his stomach up!
Lea,
Your room mate may have problem with pills doing the reverse effect on him , thats why I can't do a lot of the drugs they give me cause what it susposed to help causes more pain no help , but finding a doctor that understands that some people have reverse effects here is just out of the ?? Sure wish him luck and hope all will be okay.
Carolyn
Double what Critter said for me about spring WS Carolyn :)
Before I started WS I did in way early spring probably starting around now. I always started my milkweeds and I remember doing victoria blues, canterbury bells just all kinds of plants but I always used the seed trays and them sitting in the black trays with the holes in them with the cover on top tied down so the wind wouldn't blow it off, I thought it was such a cool idea to use milk jugs when I read about doing that on here lol
Carolyn it's not too late for you to WS that is what Critter and I are trying to say like I won't quit sowing probably until it starts getting hot outside then the seeds don't do so well so they just need to germinate before it gets too hot from my experience.
Toofew, or anyone, what is the difference between salvia Bonfire and Yvonne's tall red salvia, do they have bigger flowers or are they taller? I’ve got the Bonfire and they never really do anything for me and I don’t notice much action from the hummers or butterflies on them either.
Thanks Carolyn he doesn't understand why his reg. doctor was wanting him to go to pain management in the first place he was doing good with him and really happy and felt good when he got here but the doctor kept mentioning the pain management place so he thought he wanted him to go so he did but has had something wrong with his meds every since they are experimenting with him is how he feels and hasn't felt good every since he went so he started going back to his regular doctor and now he is really in a mess I just hope he can straighten him out without putting Tony thru hell he's such a sweet guy to have to go thru this!
Lea,
I am not gonna give up and am gonna do some thing's today for Kenny , she a girl but call her that for short most time's call her Miss Daisy cause she the boss like that movie but most time ask her what she wants to be called. Lol they so smart this day and time and just 4 lol. But she love's to plant and of course pick!! Critter going to have one of them to just need to figure out her own garden an plant an acre for her to walk around and fill vases for everyone. Lol to be a chils again. Sure hope Tony does okay I am at battles with my doctore, can't get it thru to them about past med. problems and there is no fixing just need help to survive the pain. Sounds simple to me but they can't put me under anymore cause they loose me everytime lol they get the reports but still says pain med's don't fix it need treatment and surgery. So we are going around and around even after surgeons said wouldn't touch me with a 10 foot pole unless it came to life or death.
Don't need to get started on that cause makes me mad.
Gonna o Kenny some zinna and marigold trying to think of something else she can pick to her hearts content. At least now she knows she has to wait till pepper's are big and tomatoes are red. She is great at keeping plants deadheaded.
Gonna do some more salvia today and did find my datura's and they in the pot lol.
Hug's,
Carolyn
That's pretty scary Carolyn don't want to lose you and at the same time you need different meds. just can't believe those doctors sometimes ya gotta wonder if they really know what they are doing!
I put my daturas in to soak then guess I got too much peroxide in them they sprouted in just a few minutes really it didn't take 15 min. lol Then I had to rush to get a seed tray ready for them didn't think I would have to worry about them until tonite lol They were Ansonfan's seeds they must have really been fresh lol
I need to go to the P.O. & can't find my cell phone. Is there someone here who can call it for me please?
ants
LOL.. been there, done that... Dmail me with your cell phone number, ants.
just got here critter did you get ants number??
Ibeen transplanting tomatoe's surely gonna change my planting time on them.
Carolyn
Yep, she found her phone. :-)
I have hot peppers about ready to transplant... a couple of varieties took a bit longer to germinate (like some older seeds of Biker Billy Jalapeno), but the first to sprout are already getting a set of true leaves!
Critter,
Haven't done any hot pepper but lord done double planted california bell pepper lol. Have a couple grands that love the stuffed jalapeno but they eat my ole hands up if I mess with them . May try and do a few and send them out to pick for there stuffing . Now got to see if have any seeds was thinking if had like a banana pepper and a hot pepper and planted side by side if they would mix and may be something I could handle.
Well thanks for helping Ants out got to get this stuff ready for Kenney or she is going to be mad . Think this baby wanting spring worse than me but she was happy to walk in with ahandful of daff's the other day.
Carolyn
There are very mild hot peppers out there, also. Mariachi (hybrid) was one that I tried last year and liked (growing it again this year). There's even a not-hot jalapeno variety called 'Fooled You'.
I don't handle hot peppers without gloves, as my skin reacts badly to the capsicum. For habaneros, I've even been known to double-glove if I'm using latex gloves (stuff eats through a single latex glove, but the blue nitrile gloves seem to be better).
Happy St. Patrick's Day to all DG'ers Irish & non-Irish alike.

Ok, Now it's time to remember who wants comfrey roots from me. The ground is now nice and wet and no longer frozen. I can dig them up this weekend when it is 60 degrees!
Send me dmail if you were wanting roots. I know there were 3-4 of you out there.
