Thought I might start a new month with this photo I took today of Hoya australis ssp rupicola. It's a wild plant but I was surprised where it was growing. Won't be home yet til tomorrow night but expecting to be greeted by a few Hoya flowers there.

I have blooms on an australis now too. This is one of the Exotic Angel plants, H. australis ssp. tenuipes. It was blooming like crazy in mid December. Last month I was checking a bunch of plants that have been crammed into the back porch during our cold weather and noticed it was full of mealies. I got out the spray bottle of isopropyl alcohol and killed the little buggers. Last week I was checking it again and noticed two more blooms.
Lin, you don't imagine you might have got them drunk and now they're flowering for "improper purposes"? ;O)
I took some cuttings of a Hoya I found while trekking in Queensland which I suspected was Hoya australis ssp tenuipes. The leaves are very much like the ones on yours but it hasn't flowered yet.
LOL Tropic. I'm just glad to see it blooming, I don't care what caused it. :)
I've lost a few Hoya's with our unusual cold winter ... I'm ready for spring and summer to be here! I don't even care about blooms, it will just be nice to get all the plants back outside to warm fresh air and sunshine.
My Hoya densifolia is flowering again, although it's been doing that for months now. This afternoon we had rain and in the evening the humid, still air in the garden was filled with the sweet spicy fragrance of this Hoya.
Two large H. pubicalyx umbels are on the verge of opening their flowers and H. "Kapit Borneo" is putting out buds again, flowers probably in a few weeks. The H. australis ssp rupicola in my "hoya-ry" are developing slower than expected. Possibly a week or two to open flowers.
I'm not the only appreciater of Hoyas at my place. There were two moths (same species), on two Hoya umbels. One of the moths was a bit ........ well, "moth-eaten". Had probably tangled with an over enthusiastic bat. This Hoya pubicalyx has a very sweet fragrance.

TB...moths are good pollinators!!!! You can create a Hoya Maze in the Tropics!!!!
This Hoya hasn't developed seed for me before even though it's had lots of flowers. Can't say whether the moths had visited it before or not though. After being disturbed by the photography they still kept coming back later.
It's interesting, that Hoya is growing on both the sunny and shady sides of the tree. But it only ever flowers on the shady side.

whole plant to show umbrel size to plant. Quick grower for me, 3 year old plant. Big basket, oepn mix, dries out a little inbetween waterings. Bright filtered light

There is, I think, a general 'malaise' around hoyas at the moment. Could it be that when DL passed we all felt the energy of at least one knowledgeable and rational person was gone? I know I feel it... I know Mark Randal feels it: the support and encouragement in the hoya community has been minimal to non existant and he is quitting it, for a while or forever. I can't put my finger on it... and it is sad. And life moves on....

Yes, Dom. He is taking a hiatus from Stemma for a while - possibly forever. It is often very hard to create beautiful music/painting/writing in a place where there is minimal feedback, participation, involvement and I believe Mark is feeling that way about Stemma. Really sad as I feel he is close to being one of the few unemotional taxonomists around!!!!

Yes, that is extremely sad news! I have noticed that there has been very little activity on any of the Hoya Forums for quite some time. Maybe it does have something to do with DL's passing. There used to be so much excitement revolving around the annual or semi-annual DL orders. It is all gone now. I could probably name a dozen people who used to regularly post here that have pretty much all faded away. It is kind of depressing. Unfortunately, the apathy breeds on itself - when there is little or no activity, it discourages you from posting so after awhile no one is posting.
Hopefully, some of our old friends will be back, and some new ones will come along to replace those who's interest in the Hoya hobby has waned.

I withdrew what I wrote last night as it was too topical for a friendly gardenning forum, but I hope Mark hasnt given up because of other peoples negatitivity to him trying to help sort this Genus out. Mark???
Forums go quiet when theres not much growth and flowering....I could show you a photo of the dog I have rescued from a neighbour that was chained up and howling for 2 years, was hit by a car 5 weeks ago and having sorted her at the vets and kept her in my house without his knowledge, confronted the neighbour and she's now mine..A long story thats been going on 8 months which I wont bore you with.
My Hoyas might not be blooming much, but she sure is now...:)) Photo?

Lovely photos! I just love the H. scortechinii buds - they're really sweet. I just added it to my spring order.
I have buds on acuta, guppyi, linearis, pottsii, first time buds on wayetti, flowers and buds on pusilla, lacunosa and multiflora. God I love spring!!

Yippee on the buds....yup, spring has sprung.
Well, I've been waiting patiently for the flowers on my very own H. australis ssp rupicola to open. Now they're on the verge ... BUT ..... I have only one day and then I'm back to work for another fortnight. If they don't open by tomorrow I might be back home next time to flowers beyond their 'Use by date". :O(
