Prita, such pretty faces. Which anthuriums are in 1 and beautiful bloomers (and planter) in 2 :).

Red Oak, TX

3jsmom31, when I am not 100% positive of the name, I tend to leave them out. My guess on the top plant is Anthurium Radicans, the one on the bottom could be Anthurium Clarinervium.
The flower in the second picture is a type of Salvia.
My plan this spring is to pot up all the Anthuriums that are not doing well planted in the ground, and put them in hanging baskets but I would like to find the proper soil mixture to give then a good start.

Thumbnail by prita

Gorgeous and such healthy looking Anthurium's Rita and I love those bloom's. I am going to have to re-think and change my potting soil mixture as well on some of my plant's. My mixture is still staying a bit too wet for some of my Alocasia's and this Anthurium clarinervium.

It still feels like winter here, and we have snow in the forecast for tomorrow, but the plants know spring is on the way. Must be the longer daylight hours.

Debra, everything is still looking so very lush in your house. Tremendous growing Lady.

Hi, everyone.

I saw a picture of a split-leaf philo up there. I have one small plant, about 12 inches long with 4 leaves on it. It is a cutting I got from someone in an exchange. It is growing steadily. It only had 1 leaf when I got it. However, its leaves do not split, or only 1 or 2 splits will develop. Does anyone know why the leaves don't split?

Thanks ever so much.
Sylvain.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Sylvain,

I think that have to start to climb before splitting. Or maybe I'm thinking about another one.

For the all green model (monstera deliciosa), the splits depend on amount of light, more light, more splits. I don't know that about a variegated one, though. There is also a variegated monstera called pertusa??? I can't find much info, but the leaves on it aren't splitting in the same light that the monstera deliciosa are. Shrug.

Does anyone know what kind of orchid this is?

Is your orchid fragrant? I'm wondering if it isn't the in the cattleya alliance, like brassavola, laelia, or cattleya. They have crosses of them, too, so it's hard to tell. A close up of a flower and also the plant structure could help a little.

Sylvain, a lot of juvenile aroids have leaves quite different to adults. In the last thread I posted photos of 3 different stages of one of mine. Yours will likely change too.

I agree with Tropic Sylvain. Your Monstera is still to juvenile.

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks for your encouraging words. At any rate, I like the plant so it is in no danger of meeting an untimely death.

Sylvain.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I have one too Sylvain, as a cutting.. it now has four new leaves, and Once I move it to the outside under the big elm tree, it will get huge like the other philos did last summer.. I am getting a tall ruff bark climbing pole for it at the garden show this weekend.. ( I get to work there at our Go Green! booth, yay! )
I love that orchid.. My one I rescued looks like it might be trying to do something.. I have it in orchid bark and that is inside a coconut shell I have hanging in the garden.
This is an I. Merremia Tuberosa pair I started in a recycled latte cup, and back in that cola bottle is some sprouts of that bird of paradise shrub thing, and then there is the 35 yr old BigBoy , and the rescue plants I rescued from the dreaded who knows where they go at Lowes..
the seeds from those pretty vines were almost the size of a nickle, and I had to sit them in boiling hot water and peroxide to get them to do anything. sheese!.

Oh so nice! You are so blessed to be given a beautiful surprise! Congrats!

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Thanks, kids.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

question for you orchid growers.. are they in pots or baskets or soil or what>? u water with ice cubes or regular water or special water?

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Not really an orchid grower, but an orchid killer. Lost a number with this year's winter.

I use pots with orchid mix from a local orchidist and just the wood boxes for others. Nobody is in soil. They all get watered from the sprinkler system which takes from our lake. No city water at all. They get fed when I think about it. It's amazing that anyone lives. LOL

Hello Everyone!

RachelLF, your monstera sure has grown, hopefully you will get more variegation with age.
I am now going through a Anthurium stage, reading everything I can about growing them. The Exotic Rainforest has quite a lot of valuable information.

Anthurium Faustomirandae

joeswife, I cannot get over how clean and healthy your foliage looks, mine were so bad that I stripped most of the leaves off, especially the Brugs.
The citrus plants are blooming in the GH, I think that is a sure sign that spring is near.

lakesidescallas, It sure is nice to see that plump bud on your banana and the huge Calla bloom, but I was blown away at the hight of your GH, and all those banana plants, Please show us what other plants you have hidden in that Big Beautiful jungle of yours.

pensacolagarden, sorry I have no idea what the true name of your Orchid is, I would name it "Gorgeous''

Rj, are you geting spring fever yet?

Because of my limited GH space, I almost dug this allamanda out last year. I will give it another chance, it is much prettier than the picture.

Hi All!

Rj, you are doing a great job on that deck, it looks as good as new! Please don't worry about the yard, you know that most gardeners will look at a pile of dirt and see beauty.

Hi Phughes, you are too funny!! Brian does mow the lawn.
