WS and Watering

My jugs look really dry can I water them? Nothings has come up in them yet, I did broccioli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts? I did them about two weeks ago, we have had some rain. Any advice would be appreciated.

If they are dry, you should definitely water them! Just make sure you do it gently so the seeds don't get moved around. They'll come up when they're ready, but don't let them dry out too much once they sprout.

Yes ~ water them. I've noticed mine have dried out some so I've been keeping them moist in spite of the rain. Agreed on watering gently tho. I actually removed the tape and watered from the side on mine.

I sat a bunch into a few inches of water in one of those hospital basins everybody gets but seemed like it took a long time, but your idea of watering from the side is a good idea too. Thanks!

I had to spray a lot of mine yesterday.

anytime the soil looks parched... i wet it again.... I really should drag out the little swimming pool we have and use that.

I haven't had to water yet this year.

I mostly gauge water need by the weight of the jug. Seems to be the best measure for me. If heavy, they don't need water. If light weight, they're getting thirsty.

I use Karen's method--lift the jug and if it feels heavy, it's moist.
But being a chocolate lover, I also find Trudi D.'s criteria to be very satisfying, I mean helpful.

"Moist soil is dark looking.... like the color of a cooked very-fudgy brownie. Dry soil looks dry.... it is far lighter in color and that color reminds me of a package of dry chocolate cake mix."
