Spider found in Wellington, New Zealand

Wellington, New Zealand

Please could someone assist in identifying this arachnid (I assume it is one and would be shocked if it wasn't).

To me, the overall habitus of this spider does not resemble a tunnelweb spider (especially its apparent lack of visibly long spinnerets) but looks more like a wolf spider (family Lycosidae) , of which there reportedly are some 27 species native to New Zealand. See http://tinyurl.com/yl5sdtc for an image of one in the genus Venatrix
You might try locating a copy of Vink, C. J. 2002. Lycosidae (Arachnida : Araneae). Fauna of New Zealand 44, 94 pages. (ISSN 0111-5383; no 44). ISBN 0-478-09347-0. 23 Dec 2002.
