Ornamental Sweet Potatoes get them Growing

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

Proud you bet. I put my buddy bets where my mouth was. It sure is fun going out to breakfast and picking up a bunch of free coffee I wagered on a number of our up and coming wrestlers. I carry my camera to record the pay offs.....at Starbucks. Ya all know that a cuppa and sweet bread there costs upward to five bucks. I love to hear them squeal about the Starbucks pricing. That was the deal....a cuppa Starbucks and a sweet treat to goes with. ]:o)

Wow, Doc! You're really cleaning up! Congratulations.

Adds a little spice to the breakfast chatter which is 99% BS anyway. LOL Given time we can solve the problems of the world and have goofing off time to spare. But you have to understand we are on the effective side of the famous beltway. Our only pork comes as saussage at McDonalds.

LOL Doc, Sounds like you are swimming in Starbucks LOL My SIL goes every year to watch the State Wrestling.

Well I finally potted up the first of my OSP and while I was at it I took a few cuttings from the bigger ones. So far I have 22 OSP plants potted up. There are more setting roots in small vases and more still growing on the potatoes I saved. This pic shows where you make the cut just below a leaf set the roots will grow from the leaf buds. I usually clip the leaf off but not too close the stem as you don't want to damage the bud.

Holly, good Instructional picture, you can see the new leaf buds on the rooted end too. It could not be any simpler that that.

Thanks Ladyg, I found the pot with the Blackies and Tuberose in them. It got pushed under one of the seed starting shelves and never had the potatoes pulled out of it. They are terrible dried up and I don't think they will produce anything at all for me.

Don't give up on them, you never know what a shot of water will do.

Mine are not as far along as yours because I have three weeks difference in last frost average date.
However if you do not find a better answer I will have oodles of slips I could send to you. The price of one bought plant would ship a whole fist full. Of course I assume no surprises and normal growth. They are just bam-bene-o's now.

Yep, I have them soaking.

Thanks Doc I have plenty of Ace of Spades so I'm not real worried if the Blackies don't come around. They have a much different leaf shape but the color is pretty much the same. Maybe someone will have a few at one of the swaps.

Holly - you gave me a little rooted cutting at the swap, I hate to admit I forgot about it until I took the seeds out of the bag a few days later, and no harm, no foul - it's now sitting in a glass in the window sprouting/growing away!!! Since I'm concentrating on annuals this year I'm definitely going to be using SP as accent plants!

Beck give that a little time and you should be able to get several cuttings from it. If not I should have plenty of plants at the swaps this spring.
