Yep, it is. We think we 'NEED' some water. Whether it be stream, or lake or pond. Any suggestions?
Will you move when you retire???
Niagara??
That's a little too much water. hehehe
I'm good living on a lake.
Not me. Too many mosquitoes.
We think about it but will probably stay close to the grand-kids and just travel. I want to see so much right here in the U.S.
I lived on a lake all my life and never had any problems with mosquitos.
Guess they just don't like you. Wish they didn't like me!
Oh no they like me, it's real bad here right before dusk. I have to remember to put spray on if I go out around 5 or so during the summer
I grew up in Kansas (Go Jayhawks!!!), but have lived in NYC the past 22 years. Like many people, I moved here for a good job. My DH--a native New Yorker--looks forward to retiring in Kansas City or possibly the Missouri Ozarks region, about 13 years in the future. We both love New York, but the taxes are ridiculous, and having the worst State Legislature in the nation adds to the excessively high cost of living here. Kansas and Missouri have a good quality of life, relatively low cost of living, excellent cultural attractions and medical facilities (in the cities), beautiful natural areas, uncrowded roads, plus the 4 seasons I can't live without. If we can afford it, we will be snowbirds, and rent in Florida (Siesta Key/Sarasota area) during Jan/Feb each year.
that is a nice area of FL
Nice plan, Noelle! I like Bayside. I grew up in Astoria. I second the Albany bash. They are the bottom of the barrel.
Let me introduce you to the MA legislature. Doesn't matter who the gov. is as the speaker of the house runs the state, & last 3 have been indicted for criminal activity.
Same here, only our speaker is untouchable.
all of ours thought so too - just tells you how criminal they were
Let's face it. None of them could stay if they did not get elected. Unfortunately most stay in office because a majority of people do not pay attention and or do not vote. Most elected officials are really only voted for by 25-30% of the total population. A sad state of affairs if you ask me and actually no one did but that usually doesn't stop me. LOL
Well this guy has been in power forever.
It happens whenever one party (either one) has a stranglehold.
pat i think that will change some in the next round of elections - hoping for wholesale changes just to shake things up
Iris, MA sounds similar to NY. Our legislature and other elected offices have lots of crooks, and only a few have been brought to justice (generally with a slap on the wrist instead of a meaningful sentence).
I vote in every election, but sadly, too many people are apathetic, or they believe their vote doesn't count. These are more reasons to leave NY ASAP and retire elsewhere.
Well when they had the last round of arrests in NJ the FBI stated that NJ has the worst corruption they have ever seen, guess cause it is statewide not just certain areas.
Most people like their guy, it's the other guy's rep that's always at fault. LOL
Wyoming is a very nice state, good honest people, tasty steaks, beautiful vistas, drastically varied ecosystems in the same state, ...constantly patrolled by F-16s, (lol!).
-The words honest and politician in the same sentence seem contradictory to me, politics, (by nature), is a dirty, cut-throat game and unfortunately it seems to get worse every day...
I love big sky country, but that's a major change and far from all the family on the east.
True on both counts, it's a different culture, it's 'Western' through and through, and it is far...
i hear you can get eaten out there too
.... only if you go camping, (LOL!!☺!)
Yes, and they like NYers.
My friend said "I don't want to live somewhere where you can step out in your backyard and get eaten"
good thinking!
I guess thats why the gun laws there are different..matter of survival.
I retired to Virginia because it was my last duty station. Good a place as any. I really liked the idea of living off my retirement pay and not having to work if I chose not to...if I was not extravagant.
Cost of living is affodable, but getting worse as the years go on...plus all the military medical services are close..small town living sucks thou...gossip is a major entertainment factor here, not used to that coming from NY anonimity....The river is a block away, nice breezes and beautiful sunsets...growing season is from April-Nov, but I do miss the Fall.
I google maped my old neighborhood in NY (just type in an address) and they actually have satellite photos of the building and the whole neighborhood. It looks nice and I like visiting it online when I get nostalgic, but wouldnt move back.
I didn't realize you were retired, Joyce! Lucky you.
No fall colors there???
Yes, 2004.
No Fall. One day its 80 the next day its 40. Very little transition.
I wouldn't move back to my old neighborhood if they paid me to live there! lol!
How long were you in the navy, Joyce? No fall color?
When my son turned 18, I figured I could go anywhere, and often said I'd move to Vermont. But I probably won't go anywhere. I have lots of family in upstate NY.
You grew up there, Deb?
Vermont? No, they just have moose and cute small towns. I've always lived in NY.
No, I meant your current area.
Yes, about 100 miles east of where I am now.
