CLOSED: Spider found in Melbourne Australia

Melbourne, Australia

Can anyone tell me what this spider is that turned up in our garden in Melbourne please? The body is about 2cm across and is quite dome-shaped. The white stripe is very distinctive.

This is an orb weaving spider (family Araneidae); it might be an Eriophora sp. - see http://tinyurl.com/y8fv2df for an example. All orb weavers are harmless to humans.

I think that this is the Orb-weaving spider - Eriophora transmarina: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/2371/

There is usually no white central stripe, but here is one of my pictures showing the white stripe

Here is another Eriophora transmarina clearly showing the typical back markings
