My Latest Kreations
Well, that's it for show and tell today *lol*
Think I need to have a granddaughter someday? *lol* With my luck I will have all grandsons *lol*
Kim
I'm sure that if you have grandsons, you'll find patterns for them too! LOL
Lou
Those are ALL beautiful, Kim! The one with the baby shoes and little bonnet is to die for. I can't even imagine how many hours you have put into those. The details can really tie up time.
Hey LOU!!!
Kim;
Your little outfits are to die for, where do you find the patterns for them, boy i wish i lived close by & you could show me how to crochet like that. They are truly beautiful.I have a great grandaughter who will be 1 this may, i would love to make her a hat like the little girl modeled. Really beautiful.
bonnie
Hi everyone, thank you so much. It really is just therapy *lol*
Bonnie, I have a couple of designers that I follow and purchase patterns from all the time.
Boy I SO WISH you lived close by too *lol*, I would LOVE to show you to crochet like that :)
I would love to make your grand daughter a hat, however, I have been trying to use up old yarn/thread that I have and at this point I don't have enough on hand to put together a hat :(
Do you want me to buy some yarn to make her one? I would be happy to.
Tell me the colors you would like :)
It may take me a month or so if that is OK as I am in the middle of a doily.
See, I don't just do doilies *lol*
Let me know K?
Always,
Kim
Here is a doily that I crocheted. It is candle, flame or something like that. It is supposed to look like candle flames. This one is HUGE!!!
I thought you crocheted too, Bonnie. I know you sew and do all sorts of things...including growing perfect plants. Hmmmmm...ideas are popping into my head....
Connie
OMG Connie those are just BEAUTIFUL!
I can't imagine knitting a baby blanket. WOW what a talent.
I love that candle doily!
Another crocheter.............woo hoo.
Awesome work Connie.....love it!
Kim
Thank you, Kim. I started crocheting before kindergarten. A retired school teacher lived across the street from us and I would visit with her. She allowed me to sit with her on the porch swing as she taught me to crochet. I started out making the chain stitch with my fingers and then I was allowed to use the hook and learn to dc, etc. I felt I was so special because I was the only child allowed to sit on her porch swing. Didn't play much with the other kids because Edith gave my so much attention and if I was gone out of the house, Mom and Dad knew where to find me. Little did I know how much she would touch my life. I was so curious and would ask her how in the world do you make a piece of string look so "purdy". She showed me and it still amazes me today what someone can do with a piece of string :) Thanks, Edith!
Connie
OMG.......your story SO hit home with me!
I remember crocheting with Gram on a pencil! She was so proud of the chain I had made and it was SO loopy and so out of distortion........yet she took pride.
These are the stories..............this is the lost art............you keep it going Connie and teach your granddaughters and your daughters the importance in learning this tradition!
Kim
LOL!!! We need to sit and chat about this over coffee while we crochet and knit! Wow...the memories:) I tried to teach my daughter how a few times but she wasn't interested enough to sit and learn. My son actually did learn to chain stitch. I do plan on trying with Alexis after she is born and gets a few years on her. I will make a special sitting place for us :)
Connie
Hi All;
I guess everyone has a story to tell, when my hubby & i moved back here to ill.we moved in with my daughter & her new hubby, married a second time, anyway my daughter has 1 son who at the times was about 7 or 8. latched onto grandpa real quick.lol anyway he brought home a few things from school that were crocheted, so i told them i could make whatever it was he had, he thought that was so cool, so he asked if i would make him a winter hat, which i did & he would watch me work on it, finally when i was done he was so thrilled, his words were , she made every stich.i laughed, then he asked if i would teach him how & i did some. he does know a single & double crochet, lol anyway one day he was whittling, & made me 2 crochet hooks, which i still have & always will. he is now 19 with a baby girl of his own.here is the picture of the hooks. He made 2.However i still would love to be able to crochet like kim. lol

How sweet, Bonnie!!! I know those mean the world to you. I agree that Kim can turn out some beautiful work :)
Connie
OMG Bonnie I loved your story. Boy we all do have some stories it would be SO nice to all sit and knit/crochet together wouldn't it?
Bonnie I love that from your grandson "she made every stitch". Made my heart melt. And those hooks! That is just AWESOME! Really touching.
Crochet is SUCH a lost art; we need to teach as many people that want to learn. I tried to teach my daughter and although she could do some basic knit and crochet she lost interest in it (ADHD) and has never picked up the needles or hooks again. That's OK too, we all have things that interest us and we need to pursue the things we enjoy the most.
I enjoy crochet. I find it very relaxing. I take it everywhere I go. When Jess had her tonsils out recently what did I do at the hospital while we waited? You guessed it :) I take in on rides in the car. When I watch a movie. Everywhere *lol*
Keep the stories coming ladies :)
Kim
Hi Kim, your so inspiring.... (along with everyone here)... I can relate with you on the "ADHD" with your daughter. I so LOVE and enjoy crafting; sewing, crocheting, card making to many to mention along with to many "unfinished projects" as well.... *sigh* You mentioned "yia yia" are you greek? My husband is... along with our 14 letter last name (half the alphabet)...I couldn't pretend he wasn't if I wanted to LOL.
Has anyone ever heard of " The Crochet Dude"?? it's so neat to see a guy doing this...he's wonderful! check him out...

Wow detheo that is one talented man! I have never heard of a man that enjoys crochet
No, I'm not Greek. I just have always wanted to be called Ya Ya instead of Grandma, Memere or Babchi. I think Ya Ya makes me sound young *lol*. I told my husband he could be No No *lol*. I just like the way it sounds.
Kim
Your to funny! ^_^
You ladies are awesome!! Your work is just beautiful!! And the stories are great! I used to crochet and knit....years ago, when I had five kids at home that were driving me nuts! LOL!!
I have a story too. My mother taught me. She learned from my great grandmother. My great grandfather cut some wire for her for both her crochet hooks and knitting needles and for yarn they used tobbaco twine. I just wished that I still had some of their pieces.
Yes Connie....I'm still here!! LOL!!
such great stories, i love to hear them all. lol
mrsbonnie
Love the stories! Melanie!!!!!! (Connie is waving really big) So glad you are okay!!!
Well, I got the afghan finished and wrapped. I needed to hurry and make the diaper cake. I usually make whimsical cakes but I wanted this to be so special. Our first blood grandbaby. I can't contain my excitement!!! I wanted to make a cake that was "foo foo" instead of whimsical. Lacy, airy, elegant, frilly, dainty...you get the picture.
After changing my mind and redoing it a zillion times, this is what I came up with. I have rolled up bibs and t-shirts inside these layers along with spoons, pacifiers and a teether. I always try to top them with a bear, baby doll or something along that line. Here is what it looks like before the topper. Now check out the second post :)
After searching the stores I did find a cute little baby in pink. Then I thought...she doesn't do anything and I am sure she will get lots of baby dolls. Could not find anything else except for a Fisher Price Doggie that is a learning tool. Oh, he was sooo cute! He teaches ABC's, body parts, songs, etc. I am all about learning...but...it isn't foo foo :( I couldn't find anything else to use unless I drove 2 hours away and then there is no guarantee that I would find anything. Hubby says "just put the doggie on top and be done with it", so I did. Now I have made a "Whimsical Foo Foo Cake" LOL!!! Here it is :)
Now it is on to the quilt...
Connie
just adorable.so wonderful to have granchildren, so much fun, your gonna love it. congrats.
mrsbonnie
That is just 2 CUTE!
How precious.
Very unique and beautiful!
Great job!
I'm sure your daughter/daughter in law is going to just be beside herself!
Congratulations on the new baby girl.
Are you going to be Grammie; Nannie; Nana.........
Kim
Thank you, thank you! I hope it looks okay. I am so scared my daughter will look at it and go "uh huh". I will be crushed. Anything else I can do to it? I did straighten out the center ribbon...didn't notice it until after I posted the pic.
I am from MO but lived in the south for years before moving back. We are so used to hearing Mamaw and Pawpaw, hubby and I have thought about that. Got to thinking about that when you brought up Ya Ya, Kim. I am sure I will answer to anything LOL!!! Alexis (Lexi) will have 3 sets of grandparents and I do want something different than the other two. Okay...I am now taking ideas and votes. Please submit ASAP :)
Connie
Paw-Paw is better than what our grandkids call my hubby......would you believe Bo-Bo!! And the call their g. grandmother GG. Like Connie, I answer to anything most of the time it's Ma.
