Both are beautiful as always Kim! I love to crochet with thread too.The fairy would look awesome starched really stiff and glued to a round mirror.

Jan

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Why thank you very much ladies; it truly means alot to me.
I will try to get pictures of the others at work tomorrow.
Bonnie, I do believe I bought that particular pattern on Annie's Attic website if I remember correctly.
It was ALOT of work and alot of tying in ends.
The pattern called to glue all the adornments on but I refuse to put that much work in and then glue things.
I sewed each applique on.
I will D-mail you tomorrow.

Actually Jan, that picture was taken today at work............she's hanging on the wall at the entrance to my office.
I look up all day and there she is.
My plan is to surround myself with fairies, doilies and plants at work. It's getting close.
I will take a picture tomorrow to show you all.

I can't really take the credit, it goes to my 81 year old Gram who sat with me when I was about 9 years old and watched me make a chain over and over and over until I could get it right. She thought it was the prettiest chain she had seen *lol*. To this day Gram makes around 50 pairs of knitted mittens that she brings to the town hall and they put on the giving tree and put into family baskets for the needy at Christmas. Some of the mittens are sent to the school for children who forget their mittens or lose them. She has been doing that since she was 65 years old. Every year the town halls looks forward to Gram bringing in her mittens. Right after she delivers them, she starts making some for the next year.

I love to crochet and find it so relaxing. Gram says she believes it's the only reason she doesn't have arthritis in her hands. She always has 4 or 5 projects going. Amazing lady she is and I love her so very much. I'm going to do an article for the little paper she receives so that everyone knows about the "Angel in Arundel".

Okay, got a little side tracked there *lol* Have I told you all how happy I am to be back hanging out with you again? I have missed you much!

wow, that is awsome.what a delightful lady.she sure taught you right, because you crochet just beautiful.

The fairy is beautiful!! I sure wish I could crochet again. I stopped when I got arthritis in my thumbs so bad. Now, the Dr. says to do what I've always done to keep them limber. Yah, right, like I love to be in so much pain just to be able to crochet! I always planned to crochet in my retirement. I used to crochet all winter at the gravel pit when it was so slow and the days were so long. I really got into thread crochet late, but once I did, I loved it and really never went back to yarn unless for a gift someone wanted. I did the thread crochet in the name patterns and gave those for gifts for a long time. I gave most everything I made away (thinking that if I want one for myself, I'll just make another one), and now I wish I had kept some of my pieces. Be sure and keep your best pieces for yourself!! Lou

Kim, beautiful work. I used to crochet, but mainly afghans, and back in the 70s, it was those crazy vests. LOL
Keep up the beautiful work.

South, TX

How beautiful! Great job! I love the fairy and the butterflies too!

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Lou, I am SO sorry you can't crochet anymore. It must be so hard not to be able to pick up the needle. I know for me personally it would be difficult if I couldn't do it anymore as I wouldn't know how to watch TV without SOMETHING in my hands *lol*. The funny thing is, like you, I give most of my things away. Other than these doilies (which I have been making to use up old thread) which are at work, the only other things that I have are a bunch of baby items I have made to put away for a "someday" grand-daughter *lol*

Here are a few more of my recent doilies which are at work:

I love this picture as the fairy is from a dear friend here Lin and every time I look up at my desk I get to see her and think of Lin.

The view from my desk. See all the filing cabinet space I could use to put pretty gessie's on? I figure since you have to be at work for 8 hours a day, the view should reflect who you are :)

very "homey" cubicle...nice and clean and warm feeling to ^_^

how long did it take to master that type of crocheting?
You do a beautiful job....

thats probably the prettiest work i have seen yet.

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

AWWWW you ladies are just the sweetest...........see why I missed you all so much?

Detheo, I really enjoy being at work more when I am surrounded by "comfort" items. My plan is to bring more of my plants (when they come in) to work as I only have the 2 in the picture right now (I'm just getting back into growing).

I honestly can't say that I have "mastered" crocheting as I can't read the newest patterns which are all written in graphs, I have to read the old fashioned patterns that are row by row instructions *lol*. And again, I certainly can't take credit for it as I would never has persisted if it hadn't been for Gram but I would say that I have been a "thorough" crocheter since I was about 13.

Again, I thank you all. It's so nice that some people still appreciate a lost art.

I once set up at a craft fair and didn't sell a thing because everyone wanted to buy a doily for $1.00. I can't crochet and sell it for a $1.00. I'd rather give it away.

Kim

Macomb, MI(Zone 5b)

Kim,

I was taught young too by my great aunt, I've always wanted to try the doileys but I feel so intimidated by them...I may take a class in it first though... or have someone show me would be better. I know what you mean about pattern reading...but I do tend to get easily lost by the row to row LOL...then I pull it out and do it over 3-4 times in frustration then I'm all done with it...drives me bonkers lol...

And yes those are well worth more than a buck! all the time and effort people just have no clue sometimes... I also love Annies Attic...awesome website... Does anyone or has anyone watched the channel "Create" on t.v.? they have some awesome shows on crocheting and knitting...so many different crafts and hobbies on there...from cooking to gardening and all the great and fun stuff in between :) if you ever have a chance to watch it I highly reccomend it.

Were going out to dinner tonight 22 yr. annv. I feel like I've been married forever LOL
I was 22 when we got married and it's our 22nd today... have a wonderful weekend ^_^

Delane

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

AWWWW Delane, I'm so glad we met............sure wish you lived closer...........I would love to sit and teach you to make doilies :)

22 years! Congratulations! That is SO awesome! We also got married when I was 22............for us that will be 19 years this year! I am SO happy for you.

I have never seen the channel "Create". I don't think we have that in Maine.

I love Annie's Attic but for baby wear I follow a designer named Lisa Naskrent and her site can be seen here:

http://www.crochetgarden.com/

I have ordered and made alot of her patterns for my "someday" grand-daughter that are hanging in the closet (there are about 12 outfits waiting for her)..............someday.............my son is only 20 *lol*

I hope you have a wonderful dinner............22 years!!!! That's AWESOME!

Such pretty work. Your desk looks very nice. I like how you have the small lamp there. Overhead lighting bugs me. I LOVE LAMPS. I just ordered a new crystal lamp, crystal finials, and three new lampshades from LampsUSA. SO gorgeous. Lamps are warm and beautiful. I also have a lot of the Candle Impressions candles that have timers. They look real but you can use them all you want, wherever you want. Not dangerous, real wax.

Kim,

If you get an itch to try something different, try the graph patterns! They are easier to follow and find you place in than the old kind. It's just double crochets in sets of 4 or 5. Once I realized how easy they were, I was hooked. I taught myself and wanted to teach my daughters when they were home and they neither one were the least bit interested. Now , the oldest one is moving 2 1/2 hrs away and wants me to teach her to crochet "some evening". I told it wasn't something I could teach in one evening and she got her feelings hurt and thinks I don't want to teach her! Jeez!

I find myself doing suduko and cryptogram books while I watch TV.LOL

It doesn't feel right without something in my hands.

What kind of work do you do ? Your cubicle is neat looking a lot bigger than some I've seen. It looks like a nice set up.

Lou

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Hi Lou!

I have looked at those graph patterns and it just boggles my little brain. I have to have step by step instructions for everything in my life. This includes growing plants *lol* I sure wish that I could learn to read them though as there are some beautiful patterns out there written in that form.

My daughter has absolutely no interest in crocheting. Once Christmas I bought her knitting needles, crochet hooks, yarn and thread and tried so hard to teach her. She got knitting down pretty good but because of her ADHD and lack of interest it was nothing that she wanted to pursue.

I am the Accounts Payable person for the Water District. It is actually a small group of people but we have nice size offices. I just started in this new position on December 9th and I LOVE it! I really enjoy going to work and I enjoy it more as I am surrounded by stuff that is "me". I can't wait until I have plants again so that I can bring some to work. I have that huge amaryllis and 1 hoya but that is it. I think gessies are going to do really well on top of all my filing cabinets.

I hope you had a nice weekend. I have been up since 3:30 so my intentions are to retire early.

Your friend always,
Kim

Macomb, MI(Zone 5b)

Ok I'm feeling dumb I must admit LOL....I have never seen a graph pattern for crochet?
or maybe I have...and had no idea what it was LOL...I've been crocheting for a lil while now and I just can't picture one ;)...

Sally I love those new wax candles, they are nice because you don't have to worry if you blew the cande out or not before you left...I've had to call my neighbor 3 different times and ask her to go over and please blow my candle out LOL...yikes scary...

Kim I think i will start a baby blanket...you've inspired me...my son (21) I just can't wait until he gets married and I have a new baby to love, he has a wonderful gf we just love her they've been together since 9th grade, AND.... she has a wonderful family to...we have a lot of fun together!

were gonna get some more snow....YUCK :( 4-8 in. Hurry Spring Hurry!

Kim,I love your doily with the hearts!

It's been along time since I bought a crochet pattern, what is a graph pattern?

Jan

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

A graph pattern is a pattern that doesn't give you step by step instructions in words.
Basically it's a picture that you have to count the loops and follow the picture.
I can't crochet like that, boggles my mind too much.
Lin, would you like that doily?
I really enjoyed the pattern and will be happy to make another.
Do you want it in pink?
I have pink, blue, white, wedgewood blue or an olive green color.
Any of those colors interest you?
You just say the word.

I just joined this AV forum. Used to grow for show in NYS. Now live in Fl. and want to do violets again, just a few.....
I do a lot of needlework, knitting and crochet. Started quilting. Would be nice if you posted some of your pictures on Needle Crafts forum here on DG.

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Hi Helene and welcome to the AV forum.
I really just crochet "on the side" and share my things here with my AV friends as gesneriads are my true love. I try not to join too many forums as it's too much to keep up with so I just post my crochet here for my friends to see. But thank you very much.
We are so happy you joined us :)

Your crochet is very pretty. My mom would crochet alot...she tried to teach me but I just couldn't get the hang of it. She's passed on now. While I was snowed in in Md last month, I got out a book and a needle and tried to teach myself. I'm having a lot of trouble holding the thread in my left hand, my fingers have a mind of their own and I find myself working in mid air with my hands 8" or more apart and my fingers pointing in all directions! It's crazy..like they are having a bad hair day!..my righ hand holding the needle is doing great, so half is working. I bought a different book the other day at walmart, a kit with different sized needles and a book that might be more graphic. Someone said to look on u tube thing to get some videos and that might help me. So maybe I'll try that too. There are these hanging flowers that are crocheted and for sale on ebay...I'd love to be able to do those someday. tish

Cocoa, FL(Zone 9a)

I think I have absolutely fallen in love with your crochet work.. I'm not even near your level of needlework and am absolutely envious and am coveting your recent works by drooling at my computer looking at them..LOL

You have a very great needleworking gift Kim and I would definitely buy that butterfly doily from you any time you're ready to sell it ;)

now to go clean my keyboard of all drool..lol...j/k

You know whats sad? I was at a couple different Thrift stores, the smaller ones recently, where someone owns them. And there were lots of doilies and dresser scarves with a price of 50 cents and $ 1.00. I bought a whole decorated bag of them $3. and I think that was the price of the bag - they had just tossed in all the needlework hoping someone would take it. I've bought needlework from them before for low prices. It was probably a relatives and its a shame no one wanted it to pass on in the families. All that loving handwork and its worth practically nothing. Well, I like those prices and I love old needlework. So Lucky me anyway, but is still sad. tish

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Ladies, you are making me blush *lol*. I really just do it as it helps with depression in the winter and because my Gram swears it's the reason she doesn't have arthritis.

Tish, please don't give up trying to learn to crochet. It's SUCH a lost art. It's VERY sad but doilies and handiwork from years past is just not appreciated as far as value. I once set up at a holiday fair and I don't think I sold 1 piece. People don't want to pay more than $.50 a doily. I would rather give it away than to sell a piece for $.50! I truly enjoy the feeling of the thread through my fingers and watching a piece work up row by row.

I find I don't do it so much in the summer as we have SUCH a short growing season here and I enjoy being outside as much as I can be during the spring/summer/and fall. But during the winter I am always working on something. You should see some of the dresses I have made that are hanging in the closet for a "someday" granddaughter. One of them is all done in thread with roses and bloomers :) I just don't have anyone to model them to take pictures to show you all :( Maybe someday............hopefully a long time from now as my son is only 20 *lol*.

Thank you very much for the compliments though, I greatly appreciate it.

kim;
you need to show us pictures of your work, it is truly beautiful.
mrsbonnie

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Had some time on my hands this morning and decided to photo the dresses that I have made and put away for a "someday" granddaughter.

This is not the way I wanted to photograph them as I wanted to use a "live" model but I don't have that option due to not having any little girls in the family.

There are going to be quite a few pictures to follow.

Please don't think I am looking for compliments here or bragging because I don't want it to come across that way. I'm just not like that. I am sharing pictures of my work as you all seem to enjoy seeing the pictures and have asked to see them.

I hope you enjoy.

This first one is for a toddler. It is a skirt and summer top. I designed the little purse to go with it so that she can bring a bag of M&M's with "Ya Ya" when we go shopping *lol*.
