This quote was in an online weekly newsletter, and I thought it was worth sharing with my fellow gardeners here:

"The most noteworthy thing about gardeners is that they are always optimistic, always enterprising, and never satisfied. They always look forward to doing something better than they have ever done before."

I don't necessarily agree that this is THE MOST noteworthy thing about us. Many of us garden to:
* feed our families (body and senses);
* teach and/or better relate to our children;
* save heirloom varieties;
* steward the things we've been blessed with here on earth

And on and on.....
But it does sum up our perseverance, especially that last sentence. As I plan my beds in the cold winter, and start seedlings in anticipation of the next season, I always find myself mulling over the lessons learned from "last year", and enthusiastically searching for new plants and techniques to add to my repertoire of "tried and true."
