I thought I would try some Butterfly Pea vines. T&M seeds
I soaked them in water/hydrogen peroxide for about 6 hours and then sowed them late Wed. Lest than 24 hours and one GERMINATED!
They are under lights with a heat mat under the tray. The seed package said 14 to 21 days to germinate. It was recommended to scarify, but I chose tho soak in the mix instead.
Butterfly Pea, Clitoria ternatea
That is good to know, Joanne.
I tried them last year without success. I nicked the seeds, but started them just before i went away and the house was cool. Now we know they need a soak and warmth.
I prefer the soaking method above scaring but an easy way to scare most hard coated seeds is to place a small piece of sandpaper in a small jar w/ abrasive side facing in,put the seeds in the jar put the lid on and dance around the floor using the jar as a marca...ok...you can leave out the dancing but shake the heck out of the jar.
P
Much better idea than mine: I place sheet of sandpaper and seeds in large plastic bag and rub them on the sandpaper through the bag.
Dancing with the jar would be so much more fun! Will do that next time.
Yup,shake those tail feathers..*G*
Joanna - I have a question....when you use peroxide, how much do you use, to how much water. Is it the kind you get in the drug store, or something different? Thanks!
I did 1/2 & 1/2. yup regular drug store stuff 3%
But watch! --- as there is 30% also on shelves and at about 10% concentration--- hydrogen peroxide is a good weedkiller.
Because it is expensive---I dilute the 3% one part to two parts water so I use about a 1% concentration.
