Hi Diane,
You can go ahead and give away the two year old canes. My various excursions have made my wallet a little light! I just came back from DC and a visit to Peace Tree Farm...I've become quite an expert in bringing plants back in suitcases.
I have a meeting in Maine next year in April and plan on coming bcak via New York State. I will come see you then.
Leaf rooting experiment
Sounds good!
Diane,
I planted my begonia tubers from easy to grow bulbs order pretty late but it's been two weeks and there are leaves emerging!
They are very nice tubers. I only lost one - I overwatered. Everything else looks good.
We had a workshop on leaf propagation with our local ABS chapter. For the paper towel method, one of the guys used two layers of moistened paper towel, layed the leaf cuttings on top, taking care to cover the vein end or petiole with a little piece of moist paper towel ( sorry no pic).
The picture below shows the leaf propagation in a cookie box. The bottom most layer is perlite, covered by a layer of metro mix then the leaves.
