How do I get my Jiffy Mix to soak up water??

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Okay, I've been adding water to the bag of jiffy mix to premoisten it. However, in my rush yesterday, I filled my seed tray with dry mix. I added water to the tray and put the dome on and left it overnight hoping it would soak up the water but it is still dry as a bone.
Does anyone have any tips on getting this stuff wet once you've put it into the trays???
Or would it be best for me to dump it all back into the bag and start over with pre moistened. I have to say it was easier to fill the little pots with the dry stuff, but sheesh!
Any hints appreciated. Thanks,
Michelle

Typically I put the mix into a huge bowl or bucket and use WARM water then I transfer to trays and fill with seeds. Seems like all starting mixes require WARM water - even the little peat pots need warm water to expand properly.

If you have already seeded it, I would water from the top and fill the bottom tray with water. It may take a few hours to absorb. Dump the bottom tray once it looks like the soil mix has taken up the water. If you haven't seeded it, then start over with it pre-moistened mix

Utilizing a spray bottle helps to get the surface wet.Edge

Yes warm or even hot water and a lot of mixing, I just use my hands in a big bucket and keep playing with it until it feels lke a very damp sponge.

Thanks all. I ended up dumping the tray and moistening it in a bowl. Luckily I hadn't put any seeds in yet. I just got ahead of myself when filling the tray. Alls well that ends well though. Now I know why I always premoistened the stuff.
