So how did Puxatawny Phil do today? See his shadow or not? More winter, or an early spring?
Did he see his shadow this morning?
Isn't that tomorrow, Feb 2?
Karen
:o) It IS tomorrow!
Happy Ground Hog Day!?
What was the result?
He saw it...
I would like to catch him in a havahart trap and relocate him with the rest of his kin.I hate groundhogs.Since we have doppler, now, they serve no purpose on this earth.Edge
Ummmmmmmmm??? groundhogs vs doppler??? What do you mean, edge?
Karen
weather forecasting?
Feb 2 was Candlemas day in the old Celtic calender .
They lit candles and bonfires to celebrate the return of the sun from its winter journey.
They believed if Candlemas Day was bright and sunny then spring would be late, and if it was dark and cloudy then spring would come early.
I know the weather can not be predicted to 100% accuracy. But I trust satellites and radar over a rodent.A rodent that has devastated my garden in past seasons.Death to all groundhogs.Whats next rat day? LOL,Edge
LOL, Rat Day!
Vole Week.
I am not to fond of the Easter Bunny either.Edge
I'm with you there.
Karen
LOL Sounds like open season for some critters.
LOL, okay so I got the date wrong! We don't have groundhogs out here in AZ and I guess that's a good thing. We do have a rodent called "Gila Bend Freddie" or something like that, it is a gopher. And I hate gophers as much as you all hate groundhogs! I think the little bugger saw his shadow, too. I am SO ready for winter to be over, I have had it with snow.
BTW, Gila is pronounced Heela. But you knew that.
We don't have ground hogs either, we have prairie dogs. I think a ground hog (or any rodent, etc) would NOT have seen a shadow here, but I will put my trust in Doppler for the forecast too.
Hi Grammi
I am so ready too and I am at 3,500 elevation. We have had some cold temps and so much rain that the wood platfprm that we put the greenhouse on has swollen from moisture underneath. Had to shave off the door already. Not sure how to solve that problem. I have had nats too. Using peroxide in watee for now.. Overall though it is doing great, the palms, kalanchoe and geraniums look great. But I used some dumb bug spray from HD for my nats and it ruined a lot of my leaves and they fell off on the Kalanchoe's and Jade plants.
Oooh, curves, I hope the bug spray from HD was non-toxic! I am scared to use any kind of bug poison, although I will admit to usng Raid inside the house: To kill the daddy longlegs who think I built this house exclusively for their use, and when the summer rains come and so do the sap beetles (teeny little black bugs that come in and get EVERYWHERE, including my hair. I spray the inside of the window screens and that keeps about 95% of them outside.
Last year for the firs time I planted several rows of corn out in my garden, and it turns out that the sap beetles love the fresh ears of corn and ruin them. I didn't know what to do, finally somebody told me to use vegetable oil, so I went out morning & evening with a little paint brush and a jar full of veg oil and painted them. Killed on contact. I am not sure how well it worked for the crop because by the time my last planting was ready to harvest (all the earlier plantings were ruined), I was in the hospital and in and out for 2 months. So I missed the whole thing!
This year I am going to plant some corn too early, and some too late, and see if I can miss the sap beetles entirely. But no poison.
