Oh my gosh! Where did Spring go?

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

It was 65F yesterday and this morning, in a matter of minutes, snow has fallen at a rapid rate and is continuing to do so. We expect 4 inches at least. I'm fed up.

Northern Piedmont, NC(Zone 7b)

I know what you mean louisa. Looks like a blizzard here in north-central NC, while yesterday was sunny and 60°, and tomorrow is 'suppose' to be 57°! It has been a long winter and I am ready for some warm, sunny days.

Ugh..it's coming this way and I thought we'd miss the tip of the storm. Ho humm..here's to whacking my arborvitaes, rhododendrons again with a broom and digging trenches to the bunny hutches and chicken coop..just when I needed my energy for reading garden catalogs..lol.

Hey gals, it is over here! Ya'll come on down! 80* or more today! Have to run the AC. I'll set an extra plate for supper tonight....how many?? **warm thoughts, hang in there** Lisa

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

All right, all right Lisa - Enough of that....lol. Guess you are having a great time! Mardi Gras eh? Lucky you.

MD &, VA(Zone 7b)

Louisa I'm just slightly north of ya and it just started here about 1/2 hr ago. We RARELY get any snow and they are calling for 4-7"!!!! It was warm yesterday..........

Lisa would love to be there for dinner AND Mardi Gras!!! Last time I was in N'awlins was about 4 years ago and didn't get to be there for Mardi Gras. How far from there are you?

Could certainly go for some of that warm weather about now!

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

Jody, Hi I am about 70 miles from New Orleans. Not all parishes in Louisiana celebrate Mardi Gras. Where I live at they celebrate it. The parades have already started last week, there will be many more before Fat Tuesday. I don't like Mardi Gras at all. I stay clear away from it!! LOL! Lisa

Jody - Going off thread a bit here, so maybe you might want to answer this on a new thread. Seing as you are not really far from me and no, we don't normally have snow, not every year anyhow - would you mind telling me what type of garden you have. I have moved recently and I think this area is perhaps 1 month behind the Tidewater area regarding seasons. Going to start a brand new garden soon and need all the advice I can get. Thanks.

Louisa,

One thing you might think about is visiting Monticello and checking out the gardens there. Although they try to maintain varieties planted by Jefferson, their garden people are very knowledgeable, and can probably help you make decisions as to what, and when to plant.

You can also pick up seed while you are there if anything strikes your fancy.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

We have only been in this area since August and so concentrated on our new house project that it has left very little time for exploration. But, having said that, I intend to visit Monticello as soon as I can. I do keep my eyes open and am glued to the hedgerows and wild flowers (which are splendid by the way), also making notes of the native pines etc. Have you been to Monticello? How about Montpelier?

Cape May Court House, NJ(Zone 7a)

SNOW!!!!! It has not stopped since 11:00 this morning. We have about 15 inches right now! It really cought me off guard, my 4 wheel drive was in the shop, had to leave work early to get the twins because school was let out early. We usually don't get alot of snow right on the coast but this is going to be a big storm.. Lisa, 80 degrees, It's just a dream for us up north!!/// Been to new orleans one time in 1992, beautiful city but I drank to many hurricanes (YUM-YUM ) and still swear to this day that I had alcohol poisoning.(HA-HA)

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Ruby - You are not alone regarding the snow. We don't normally get very much here either but I have never seen so much fall in so short a time. Hubbie went out to get coffee and couldn't get back home. Well, he did eventually. He said lorries had jacknifed and it was a mess out there. Funny thing - it's going to be about 60F by the weekend.....lol .....yippee!!

Middlesbrough, United Kingdom

Yes, we've got the horrid white stuff back too. Well at least I got my primulas in last weekend. It's cold, wet and shivery here again. But at least there's more daylight now and it's a relief to know that spring, real spring can't be too far away. A lot of our gardens have a few flowers showing now - snowdrops, crocuses, winter-flowering pansies, winter-flowering heathers, bellis perennis, and of course primulas.

Waynesville, MO(Zone 5a)
