Niece is moving to New Hampshire - Advice please

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

My niece's husband got a job at the Nashua, NH airport as a crew chief. He has been w/o a job for a year. Currently they live in NJ in the house his grandmother owned. Tara loves to garden. He starts in 2 weeks. The rest of the family will move up after school lets out in June.

Any advice for school systems, good libraries, Boy scouts, etc would be greatly appreciated. They are thinking of renting for a year to become familiar, but if they can find one to buy that would be suitable they will consider that.

Their son will be a high school freshman. Their youngest daughter is 8 and has Down's Syndrome and has been in a school that is inclusive, so she isn't removed from the classroom for special instruction. That would probably be the MOST important consideration for them. Their oldest daughter has found 3 schools for respiratory therapy so she is set. They are thinking of about a 20 mile radius from the airport, but he is used to a 90 mile commute one-way, so they are flexible.
Any ideas or links would be MOST appreciated. I know I can count on DG for support.
Thank you.

I've just contacted my daughter, who lives in Nashua, for permission for your niece to contact her.

Well no help with advice but congrats on his new job. I am sure they will like it. Probably more snow so they should factor that into travel distance. Best wishes to them.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Thanks. They seem to be excited about this new adventure.

What did she say, Candyce?

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

LOL - haven't heard back from her yet. I'm amazed, too. She usually spends most of her Sundays on Facebook. Maybe I'll try good ole email!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very pretty up there. Would not like the winter, though.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

This winter is not so bad, Victor. Minimal snowfall, but the temps have been brutal for longer than I care for. But then, I'm a warm weather gal.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

We went to the White Mts one winter. Coldest I've ever been!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Windham, ME(Zone 5a)

Howdy, great to meet you Candyce! BB

Jan23, good luck to your niece and family.

NH is one of the nicest places to live. I used to live up in Lincoln area and went to school a little more north. I do recall taking the battery out of car at night so I could get to school in the morning.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Thanks, Elsie I'm looking forward to visiting sometime.

I'll pass on the suggestion to take out the battery at night if it gets cold. ^_^

Jan

Jan, I lived up in the midst of the White Mountains - it was much colder there. Just joshing Victor. I'm sure your niece will love it in Nashua.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

She would be happy anywhere! She is the type of person people flock around.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

The, Jan, she and my daughter will get along just fine. They both seem to have the same temperament.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Sounds great!

Hi Jan! I just saw this thread, as I haven't been on DG much in the last couple of weeks. I'm afraid I have little to add since we live on the other side of NH. Sounds like they will do well in the move, and I'm happy to hear of his new job. Best of luck to them all! You will have to visit them and join us for an RU in NH at some point! LOL

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Thanks, Louise. Don't worry, it's on my bucket list.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Yay!! ^_^

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

I live right next door in Hudson, I am not sure how the schools are zoned in Nashua so I'm not much help there. There is a bad part of Nashua to live, just warn her! She'll know it when she sees it.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

hint - street with a tree name

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

LOL!

Oviedo, FL(Zone 9b)

Gee I don't think there is much in NH that is 90 miles away from anything. 75 miles from here is in Maine! do try to find a place in NH because taxation across state lines is a killer.

and the taxes keep getting higher

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Okay, I'll pass that info along. Thanks

Street with a tree name - AVOID
Stay in NH.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

There's a major fire on Pine Street in Nashua, right now.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Is that the tree name?

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

"Pine"?

I don't know if that's the one or not.

There are a lot of streets with tree names in Nashua. Keene, too!

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

I found a site with all the schools in Nashua that might be helpful. http://www.nashua.edu/district/
Click on the tab that says schools and it shows a map with all the schools and you can click on each one for info.

Thank you, Meredith. Schooling is the biggest factor for them.
