ROFLOL, That Pictures is worth a 1,000 words. Aren't kids just the best!
I know I have a pic of Jamie when he was about 2 or 3 his older sisters dressed him up in a dance costume. Lime-green with a tutu, have to look an see if I can find it. Holly

He is older now, of course, but the only horse he doesn't try to push around is Mac, the really big guy. Even his mom is subject to his bossiness. Before, it was just her, lol!
Sally, come on down anytime - these guys are made for hugging and scratching. Carrots are not to be overlooked, lol.
RCN - that is just the best shot - I would have it blown up and made into a poster, brought out whenever you need a hand....
Stormy, I am as guilty as the next about the music. I do feel bad for the artists (although I would never have bought all that I downloaded) but feel not a bit of guilt for those it really hurt, being Sony, etc. They made incredible profits for so many years without ever worrying about the artists or the fans - they scraped them both for as long as they could.
You're right about that, Sheryl. The same with the film studios. That's why BMI and Ascap were formed. Look at guys like Mozart. He never even kept copies of his orchestrations and poor Satchmo and most of those early blues men. Tons of folks made a fortune off of their music and they all mostly died in poverty. It's the same will painters. When the Beatles formed Apple, it was the beginning of the end of their monopoly. Same thing as when Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford and Charlie Chaplain started Pickfair, that eventually became United Artists.
Oh, that Stormy is aptly named!!! They all look so loveable. Which ones do you ride?
Holly, you should have that photo blown up and framed and give it to his family for a gift. It was be a hit at his next birthday party or father's day.
Pagancat-wish I could run over there.
stormyla- theres a movie bio of Charlie Chapiln with Robert downey as Chaplin. it was pretty interesting, if thats an interest of yours you might like it, it gives some insight into the infant movie inductry.
That sounds interesting.
Alee looks like my gelding when I was young named Tar. I so enjoyed 4-H with him.
I wish we had 4-H where I lived in Michigan. Do you still ride, Jan?
I hope Tar had a better attitude than she does. She's one of those horses that just has to make a point of letting you know who's in charge. Not for long, not mean, but just enough to really make you look really dumb. I think she's my prettiest horse, but she makes me crazy some times.
This pic shows you how gorgeous her coat gets.... am I boring the heck out of you all?
Absolutely not, Sheryl, This is a rare treat. Alee is a beauty. How is it that you get all of these horsies with attitude?? Birds of a feather...
Sally, Yes, I have seen that. Downey was awesome as Chaplin. He has such an amazing talent. Rent it folks!!
I never tire of looking at horses. Holly
RCN, I was thinking about your Black Bamboo the other day. Someone mentioned that they would like to grow some but that it doesn't grow in our Zone. I haven't looked it up yet to see if she was right. It was kinda funny that she mentioned it as I was thinking how pretty that is and it would be nice to have some for projects. I don't know if you have the room or would even want to but I bet you could sell a bunch of cut pieces at your shows.
Sure does grow in 6b - may I recommend a pot???
Hey, Stormy - what are you trying to say about my attitude, hmmm? Well???
The more I get to know animals, the more I realize how complex their personalities really can be.
LOL Sheryl, your ponies can't get much by you!
*runs upstairs to check on her CC cuttings from Doc*
great horse photos & stories... Joyanna likes Stormy especially.
run Critter... RRRUUUUNNNNNN
RCN, I was thinking about your Black Bamboo the other day.
Sheryl, your horses are beautiful! I've never been much of a horse person, only ridden twice in my life - once when we were in Belize and another time on our big 'ole Belgian workhorse. I do love the smell of the horses and I LOVE their manure for the gardens! A few years back when we mulched everything with hay our gardens were filled with the pleasant aroma of a horse barn! LOL
That's too funny, Critter, cuz I also ran to see if my cuttings I got at RRR's house were doing anything. When I came back and moved to the next post I saw you running as well. I did see some new growth, so Thank you Doc from me also.
No, I haven't ridden since high school. My uncle had horses and he let me have one to use. I progressed from Shetland and Welsh ponies to horses as I got older and bigger. So, after I graduated and went to college, he took Tar back. He provided horses for camps and even some for the Cowtown Rodeo in NJ. 4-H is a great organization.
LOL on the shovel story. Any tips on where to find long bamboo poles for the garden? I guess I need to find someone who is growing it.
Jan, if I ever make it to one of the swaps I'll bring you some :)
I really should try to go to cowtown this year.. Randy has not been there yet
RCN, I was thinking you could sell the canes. Surprising how much people will pay for them and I bet you could get more for the black ones.
Jan, If you see some growing in your area stop and ask if you can cut a few. Many people with stands would be glad to have someone else thin them. You can offer a couple of $$ but really you might not have too. Ric did that a couple of years ago that was how we got the ones we use in the garden. He might have to go back this year for a few more. Holly
BTW I have several tiny buds on my CC, too.
Too funny - I thought you were telling Critter to run and get her baby-girl away from the pony pictures - girls do get hooked at a young age, it's true. Although I've heard of many a young girl concentrating on horses instead of boys - when you have to make it to the barn by 6am, you're not out to midnight, lol....
One of the local nursery owners planted some black bamboo around his house and is now offering the shovel to all - it really takes off, here. I thought it was a clumper?

What is that line about Boys and horses? They get lured away by the fumes of perfume and gasoline? Well that happen somewhat to Josh. He gave up his pony and 4-H but was always willing to help around the horse shows. He knew where the girls were to be found. LOL You could always find him in a crowd of girls, quite often one of the few boys to be found. He sometimes went along to the riding classes and just hang around the barn, too. Always the gentleman offering to "help" them mount their horse. LOL
Sheryl, you have lived in some pretty diverse locations, TN, Mi and Az, or was it NM?. Did you have the horses in all of those spots? Does anyone but you take care of those horses? Almost makes me wonder how you have time to garden.
Onewish, I would like to get to Cowtown this year too. It's always a lot of fun. Haven't been there in a long time.
LOL, Critter, so Joyanna likes horses better than crabs!
I think it's fun the way Doc's CC are all mixed together in one pot. There will be a rainbow of colors, maybe blooming at different times.
Now Holly, That sounds like something Ric might have taught Josh. No??
Stormy, Where in the world would you get an idea like that? "Can I help you with that?Darling".
Josh just is a polite, helpful, Hunk, I mean son. LOL Ric
All my men are charming. LOL
LOL You sly fox you!!
Yes, they are and Josh is hunky!!
The only one you've missed, Stormy, is Texas - twice, a year apiece. Dallas & College Station the first time and San Antonio the second.
But I didn't get my first horse until 42, while living in downtown Phoenix. That's one of the reasons we moved to TN - land is infinitely less expensive and you can have an actual pasture, here. There's also a lot of trails in this area and a State park that is nearly all horse trails.
I always told my single male friends - go take some lessons at our nearby stable. Not only will you have little to no competition, but the gals who stabled there tended to be pretty well off, too!
If you go to Cowtown let me know. It's only 7 miles from my house. I've been to the rodeo only once in 33 years in this area. Sad, I know.
Thanks for the offers of bamboo. I remembered that a nephew has some in his yard. Maybe he'll cut some for me if I ask real nice. I think we'll have to wait for the snow to clear now though. ^_^
Josh was no dummy! Sounds like he knew right where to hang out.
Jan and Alison, do you know the date of the big rodeo this year?
Sounds heavenly Sheryl. I have family in both the Dallas & San Antonio areas, so I'm familiar with both. I would prefer an area like what you live in now. Did you get any of this storm?
Alison, did you get much snow up there?
no snow.. can't even call it a dusting... I am not a big date in advance person ... I am not one of those people that can start planning months in advance.. I put things on my calender do I don't forget that thing is happening that day... and maybe i will go.. maybe not.. in other words I would make you nuts just because you are very well organized.. and I just can't be with planning things.. I push Michele over the edge sometimes... she likes to plan things months in advance.. I am more of a pack a bag the night before I decide to take a trip.. so if you have any dates in mind let me know and it will go on the calender
all too cute!!!
all too cute!!!
I'm not sure who's cuter! LOL
Just to set the record straight, my "cross dresser" grew up to be a very "manly" man :) He's also a pretty good fisherman although this one wasn't very impressive. Maybe that was the bait? LOL
