It is a leaf-footed bug (Hemiptera/Heteroptera: Coreidae) known as a western conifer seed bug (Leptoglossus occidentalis). In spite of its name, it occurs as far east as Maine, and has extended its range to Europe as well. They often enter buildings in search of overwintering shelter, but do no real damage. Thanks suunto. I really thought this was an assasin bug, so I'm glad I double-checked.

I can't wait for the spring to get some more IDs. Not many bugs around in Massachusetts this time of year.
