Quoting:Looks like I will be the first to be the bearer of the bad news. As a result of some interpersonal communications and establishing a friendship over the years with Dave, the DG founder, I was included in a group D-mail this morning in which Dave let us know that DG has been bought out from NameMedia by another company, and Dave will no longer be the Administrator for DG and is not even certain he will still retain his DG screen name. This change came as a total surprise to Dave and he is saddened by having the site taken from his control after he has put so much into DG and had every intention and expectation of retaining his position at the helm for another decade or so to come. He started Dave's Garden from a simple beginning as his personal seed inventory site to having it grow through his loving guidance and prodigious computer programming abilities to become an international premier gardening website with tens of thousands of members and subscribers. I have to admit, I am on the verge of some very sentimental tears because it seems like we may be headed into a transition at DG that may change the friendly neighbor charisma of the site. I know I will definitely miss Dave's presence and his consistent enthusiasm for maintaining DG. In his Dmail, he stated that we could pass along this disheartening news, and that we will all should expect a public announcement from NameMedia sometime in the near future.
Not sure what this means for the forums

I hope this isn't really happening.

Dave?????

It is really happening. That this new company is choosing not to retain him doesn't bode well. I am disgusted by what they're doing. You could always write the Namemedia and voice your opinion: http://namemedia.com and click the contact us link.

This will NOT be Dave's Garden without Dave. :(

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

It seems odd to me that Dave, who generally doesn't like to deal in rumor & speculation, would make such an announcement pseudo-privately rather than posting on the DG forum or putting a "Dave News" bulletin on our home page.

I think I'd rather believe somebody hacked the Dmail system... put me in the "hope this isn't really happening" camp.

Dave does so much to set the tone for DG as well as giving us all sorts of useful tools and additions. GW is right, it wouldn't be DG without him.

Yes, divulging the news in this indirect way does seem a little 'off'.

Yet I haven't noticed that Dave himself (or any admin) has confirmed, denied or mentioned anything at all, and that is also odd.

Can anyone link me to a post by Dave or Terry about this? I would appreciate it if they can.

If this news is true, then it makes me sad. t.

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

I am not believing it 'yet'. I find it hard to imagine that Dave or Terry wouldn't have said SOMETHING first.

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

does seem mighty strange...

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I just sent off a Dmail to admin with a link to one of threads with the quote. Hopefully they'll respond to say if it's truth or rumor.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Got a response from Dave -- rumor is true. :-(

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

It is true. Dave sent the e-mail outside of the system, privately, and said recipients were free to forward the information. As to an official announcement, Dave chooses to let the website's owner deal with making a formal announcement. It is true.

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

well crap!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

GW, I wasn't doubting you, just verifying in case those who received the email/Dmail from Dave had been hacked. Dang.

Southern, United States

So now what? does anyone know? Are we getting info from the new owners or are things going to continue as is ... I wanted to start a thread in the Dave's forum, but was cautious since no one else had lol didn't know if there was a reason why not.... I would think a centralized location for information would be good for everyone

sheesh, I just renewed for a year... wouldn't have if I'd known it wasn't going to be Dave's Garden, unless this is something Dave wants?

edited to remove the wrong link, but debilu posted the correct one . . .

It wouldn't let me log in. Or rather, it would Only let me log in and not show me anything else. I am really unhappy about this.

I've gone to that namemedia website and hit "contact us" and left them an email.

My subscription is up for renewal, and I flat out stated that I don't want to renew unless I know up front if I get my $$ back if they change the site to something I don't want to participate in.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'm pretty sure that NameMedia no longer owns DG. It'll be interesting to see if you get any response at all.

POTTSBORO, TX(Zone 7b)

bonjon--I second that move

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1071571/

Just to let you know I n this thread Dave says the deal is done. Name Media no longer owns Dave's Garden. Dave answers all our questions in this thread & it is very reassuring.

Raleigh, NC

yes, I've since seen that NameMedia no longer owns DG. so probably no response will come.

and I've seen Dave's response where he says he got the wrong info, that there will be a place for him in some capacity. Most excellent!
