OMG, you all are to much, I asked for no seeds back because I couldn't participate and here I gets a box with seeds in it from Ella today. The flowers are going to be beautiful and the veges are going to be eaten for sure. (I love my veges). Thank you all so much. I'm heading in to dig through them some more and get my lists added to and such.

But first, I wanted to send all my prayers out to everyone that is hurting in one way or another and I also want to say prayers for all those in Haiti, whether they are a native to the island or there to help in any capacity they can. I wish I could go and help. But will have to settle for what ever I can do for them here.

Ella I hope you like what RRM sent you, I think it was perfect for you and please get better, don't push yourself.

To all those I've missed, I may forget to write it down, but I think of ya often and I want you to know I praying for your needs too.

Thank you again everyone for making a gloomy day so much brighter.

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10b)

I am still wading thru my trough and entering seeds in my database. I need to wintersow some more things so that I can get these empty bottles out of my way! Hope I have enough dirt. It was drizzly/icy/dreary today. It should be sunny and above freezing the next couple of days, I am hoping to wintersow in place a few things.

I have very high sloped ceilings, and hate when I have to get spider webs webs down. I usually carry spiders outside if I find them. They are history if Bella the cat finds them first. She likes to hunt bugs, flying or crawling.

When I first moved here, I set off bug bombs just in case before moving in. I had seen spider webs and there were ticks by the back door. The bf treated the grass with bug/flea/tick killer. He also sealed around the pipes under the sinks. The first fall, I had mice getting in behind the stove, but Tiffany handled those and found where they were getting in.

You could patch your basement and paint it with drylock (think that is what it is called, cement sealing paint). They have a water based variety that is as easy to use as regular paint.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Opps runnign behind here!

Daniel..... Happy Birthday to You!!!!!!!!!! Hope you enjoy it!!!!!!!!

Rides.. I love it. Ya I noptice d the coffe pot and the halo, though alo I may have to let slip some times. Love the little lady bug and bees too. : )

Oh and thank you Perennially me for the seed catchign bags. Now I got away to catch them hard to catch ones. : )

Daniel Happy Birthday May this next year of your life be filled with lots of plants

Carolyn Thanks for the info but don't be rushing or stressing over it because it's going to be awhile yet before I can do more than think about starting those much as I would love to.

Got 3 flats ready for sowing now all I have to do is figure out what to put in them first. Guess I have to go through that piggy trough again. Gee at this rate I'm starting to worry I'm going to fray the evies before they all get planted.

I haven't seen her and I just got doen checkign and all piggy boxe s have been delivere d except for hers it says note was left on the 14th for delivery and hasn't been marke d as picke d up. So nwo I getign worrie d she ok. I knw weatehr been bad in North wher e she from and want to make sur e nothign has happened to her.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

I just searched thru A LOT of threads... Lala did not post much throughout the swap, and last post from her was Dec 14th.

It's possible that she is back in school. I do recall that she was taking an algebra class. not sure if she is taking more this semester.

I wish there was a way to search for a person's "last post" made... that would help tracking down when someone was on line last.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Ya. I trie d searching too and last oen i foudn wa s her trying to fidn out mor e info about th e gourd s she wa s eating. I just hope it is school keeping he r busy and that it nothign worse. Gonan worry til I knwo she ok.

On starting water Lotus seeds you file away at the end of the seed with the round end, NOT the point end. File it till you see some white color and stop. Put it in warm water and sit in sun light. Change water twice a day to keep down bacteria. After 3-5 days you should see green coming out the end you filed off. When second leaf pad gets to top of water then you are ready to plant in good composted rich soil with the water level to the top of leaf but not above it and as it grows you can add more water to keep it deep to about 10inches of water over the soil area. Don't plant too deep because you can drown lotus plants. The leaf pad needs to be out of the water. After it is planted, it will grow out of the water and the pads will get tall. But it needs to be kept under about 10-12 inches of water when grown. Now this is for full size lotus, I never grew the dwarf kind before. They need to be about a year old to bloom. So start them now and you MIGHT get a bloom before winter but surely by next year.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 9a)

I got a pack of seeds that says Evening Primrose, does anyone no which evening primrose it is?

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

At some point during the swap I misplaced the baggie with passion flower
seeds. If I promised them to anyone who didn't receive them please
let me know. I found another drying tray of them.

Happy Birthday Daniel. Hope you had a memorable day:)

WS some veggies, columbines, lillies and some bienniels today.
Have to say I'm exhausted from cataloging all the seeds and
planning where they are going to fit into my beds.

Ella if you have a baggie of seeds from DMGardener hiding under
your bed it just might be mine!

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

Chris that would be one for me for the passionflower.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Cris... What am I suppose d to be looking for? I''l check all the rooms and back through the buckets and all th etrash. Buckets got move d from oen room to another, then down the hall and back to bedroom then kitchen and living room to pack and I would grab three or four buckets at a time, so it possible I misse d something or it fell into anothe r bucket when tryign to make room for everything.

Wil check under the bed sides. Hope nothign under th e bed. Haven't swept under ther e in a while. Just hope the dust bunnie s don't blink back at me. LOL

Southborough, MA(Zone 6a)

I need some suggestions-

My daughter has decided to do her science fair project on growing seeds.
She it trying to find out what seeds will sprout the fastest, and leave longest based upon potting medium.

So what are some unusual potting mediums you have used that work or don't work?
I have seed starting soil, what else could we use? Need 2 others.

Going to use seeds that sprout reliably, which for me is Calendula (particularly since I have a ton of it!)

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

You could use plain garden soil (either from nursery or from the yard), a soiless mix, and a peat/compost mix, or just peat moss by itself.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Sand can be used, it is rather unique.

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

HI Everyone
OK Mekos you've got me wanting to start my seeds but I still need some help.
how warm should the air temperature be for starting indoors? Or should it be cool

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Herb... She coudl us e like straight cow manure, preferably the composte d kind , so a s not to run all the participants out. LOL , A sterile potting soil mix and sand. That give s three really different textures and she coudl report exactly which nutirents are in each and when the plants die, why they died. Just a thought.

Port Norris, NJ(Zone 7b)

Imzadi, I have a bunch of seeds coming your way I'll tuck the passion
flower in with them. Will get them in the mail probably Friday.

Ella, DM Gardener (6) Nasturiums: “Alaska” and Milkmaid,
Zinnias: Cut & Come again, Envy, Exquiste, Fruit Smoothie

Herbspirit Sprouts would be fast growing for your daughters project.
Not exciting but edible. How about wet newspapers as a growing medium?

Southborough, MA(Zone 6a)

All good ideas. I think I will suggest to her that she use Sand, Potting soil, and Compost (I have my own composter in the yard)

Was also thinking of Peat or a straw bale, but then I'd have to go unthaw some from in the shed, and would likely find nesting rodents (yuck!!)
And I think I like the above 3 better for indoor cleanup!

She has to do 5 trials of each kind, urrghhhhh. You know how these science fair projects go, parents do the real work. I try my best to have her do it, but if I don't nag her a bit (a lot), it won't be done on time.

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10b)

She could use damp paper towels, ie "no soil" as one option. She could also use sterilized potting soil vs potting soil direct from the bag.

Orrville, OH(Zone 5b)

My GS did a similar experiment and used sand, clay, and nice garden soil.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

They have some stuff that you get at Auto zone
that is oil-dri, you could use some of that too.

Buckley, WA(Zone 7b)

Cris, if Ella can't find the bag from DMGardener, I have some Cut and Come Again, a Zinnia Mix from BSGardens, red doubles and Bernary's Giants from Gemini Sage, and some Spider red from Colchie that I can share with you. Let me know.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Cris.. I am sorry. Truly. I have double checked aroudn the beds and under them and through evrything to include the buckets and back through the trash. It eiter accidently slide into somebody elses bucket with them beign so crammed together and the plastic all slippery or by accident when layign out packets for people and extras it got mixe d in the extras, but I really don't think it was the second. Don't see how since that was a packet.

I have some innia Up roar Rose and Zesty Mix from last year swap I nevre got planted and I have some Nasturtium Carribbean Cocktail if that would help ya out.

Maybe if some body find s in their box they will holler out.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

it's probable that it wound up in someone else's trough.
