Can someone ID this large cream white hibiscus? I think I've seen it IDed as Elephant foot...or something similar. Appreciate any help.

do you have a picture of the whole plant?

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Partial view... It's in a huge pot and looking pretty fried after the last two freezes. It's covered, but still stayed chilled too long.

Thanks Wilfred! That's what I couldn't remember, not Elephant foot.

Yea I know, rest of the elephant is still missing, LOL! I'm still wondering why they named it elephant ears, when elephant are grey and not white, I would had probably call it Dancing Swan maybe Swan Lake or Polar Bear if it because of its size. Anyway its gorgeouse and I my self am trying to root some cutting a friend sent to me but don't know if they will, just have to wait and see if I'm lucky.

If mine makes it, I can send you some rooted cuttings....if that's allowed. It's the easiest one to root that I have. Unfortunately, the pot it's in is too large to move very far. The hibiscus has filled the pot, so I can't easily remove it, and the pot is too pretty to break. Just remind me in the spring.

Nice Bloom...

I agree with Wilfred. It looks like Elephant Ears

Looks like Elephant Ears to me too. Great double as it doesn't droop. Do you have other Hibiscus? EE has shorter stems & the leaves are thicker. Mine bloomed with a more ragged look & had a lot of pink in it during all this cold weather. Usually looks more like
a Gardenia. Really like some of the traits of this one.

Judy, I have some of the Cajun hibiscus, a few other named ones.....and quite a few that are just tropical hibs that have long since lost their IDs. Our backyard is getting too shady for the ones that are in ground.
The leaves of the one above (EE) are large and thick, but the stems are not short. They are thick. upright, and mostly about 3 ft long. I'll have to see if I can find a pic of the pot last summer when it was in bloom. It doesn't look too good right now.

Sorry I wasn't more clear. Was talking about the stems on the buds & leaves. This pix shows how short & thick they are. Made a lot of cuttings from this one & you can tell how
the branches are more straight, rather than sprawling out to the sides. In other words, less bushy. This bloomed so funny recently. Where this looks like a Gardenia the last one had a very ragged looking flower & a lot of pink in it. Also noticed my Versa white had some unusual colors in it yesterday. So weather is definitely affecting the colors. The reds & yellows are staying true to color...so far. How are your babies doing, Jon? did your Hibs
in the ground survive the winter weather y'all had?

EE is in blue pot to left of pic. Pot is 21" tall, so yes it's branches and stems grow erect. I chk'd on pot this morning and the backside of hib looks ok.
It does look like a gardenia.....but a giant one!

Nice looking garden. Was this made recently?

This is not a good pix but shows the ragged pink look of EE in the midst of our very cold weather.

Here's small rooted EE from that original hib. Pot is smaller than flower. Not great pic, but no pink in it.
As for garden....that area is toast now. I had hibiscus shrubs that were 6 to 8 ft tall. I'd cut them down to 3 ft and cover them with hoop when it got cold. 'String Xmas bulbs and they'd make it thru the winters here. Ext. agent did an article a few yrs ago for TX Gardener magazine and included photo of my hib hoop. I decided to let them go this winter and try to plant a small vegetable garden in the space. I have very limited sun because of oak trees. Wanted to start a garden with my grandson this spring.
