Spider ID

San Francisco Bay Ar, CA(Zone 9b)

This spider spent the past few weeks hanging out near my ceiling. A couple of days ago it finally got low enough for me to take a closer look. I'm not really sure about it's measurements, but I would guess it was a couple of inches all stretched out like that. After the photo shoot, I picked it up in a paper towel and moved it outside, where is crawled off into the flowers. Any thoughts on an ID would be much appreciated. Thanks!

This one has me a bit puzzled - the overall appearance is consistent with it being a wolf spider (family Lycosidae), but neither its 'pose' nor its eye pattern seem typical for this family. However, it really does not seem to resemble any of the other common spiders of California that I am familiar with...

i've seen that "pose" on spiders here in florida also. next time i'll try to get a picture. i never did know what kind it was.
