Using 2 Liter Bottles

While these images aren't the greatest... I hope they give you an idea on how to cut and use them.

1) Cut holes in the bottom. I use a steak knife... Poke and Twist to make a hole

2) Cut in half, probably 2/3rds the way up

3) cut about 3 to 4 "V" cuts in the top.

you do this so the 'cap' is easier to put back on, plus they will be used as "vents" once the weather warms up

**I did not fill them yes, as i'm not sowing today....

after filling the containers with soil and seeds...

4) reseat the top over the bottom, slightly pressing the "V"s in until it is 'closed'

5) tape shut

In the spring, when you have little seedlings and the sun is getting warmer... take off the tape and you can slide the top up a bit, but still keep it attached, but enough to where the "V"s are open and hot air can escape.

The photos show the process nicely - thanks so much for posting them. I would have tried to put the top on the outside of the bottom instead of in the inside LoL

I cut mine the same way only I don't usually tape. If you push down hard on the top it stays put. (They work well for propagating cuttings too, which I was doing in this case). In spring, I just pull up on the top to create side windows.

How does 7up bottles work? Will the color of the bottle filter too much light from the seeds/plants?

No, green pop bottles are fine.

Thanks Karen! You may have covered the subject before but i couldn't remember. I had a container hunt in my garage yesterday. I found a couple of juice containers that I could use. I cleaned a few containers and made all of my holes. The most difficult part of this was deciding what seeds to put in the containters. LoL
