LOL, JD, you must have been creating your thread at the same time I was creating mine. But if anyone deserves 2 threads of birthday wishes, it's SHERRY!

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

Birthday wishes from me, too!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Thank you very much! I actually forgot about it myself until yesterday. We'd taken a drive up to Julian for pizza and I was looking at their list of musicians for the month, noticing that they'd be having Bluegrass that evening, on Saturday the 9th, when it hit me that today was my birthday. I keep telling everyone else on their birthday to go nursery shopping, but have been doing little of that myself since I have a zillion plants still not in the ground, high water bills and just simply do not need anymore plants....then I went to Trader Joe's this a.m. and they had Shooting Stars hydrangeas for $6.99...need I say more? Last year when I was looking for these, I was happy to pay $16 at the grocery store when they had only one. So, of course, I had to buy two and the pretty apple blossom colored hydrangea also. These will go into large pots to join the 4 oakleaf hydrangeas, the variegated lacecaps, the other Shooting Stars and several other various hydrangeas that I don't seem to have a place to plant....lol...I really do have intentions of getting everything planted in the next couple of months if it will just rain again...I think we'll be going back up to Central Ca again this week and my other B'Day present is to make sure that regardless of what else is going on...I WILL get to go to Monterey to the Aquarium and stop at Cabria on the way home. I want this, I deserve this...lol.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Wow, 2 birthday threads for a wonderful lady. :-)
A very Happy Birthday to you dear lady.

Sounds like your doing WHAT you want to do, even though your not out nursery shopping like you tell us. lol
Yes, you do deserve a side trip on your way home. Just don't fall in love with Cambria again and leave us SoCaler's.

I hope all goes well with your trip too. I'm so sorry to hear about your fathers ailing health. As you know, I am very close to my dad too, so this is close to home for me.

I'm also glad to hear that you are a fellow Capricorn too!! lol My Dh's birthday is coming up next week too. I guess us Capricorner's stick together good. lol

Hugs,
Donna

Sherry, forgot to mention that my tall Iris you gave me is blooming right now. There are 2, one is open and another is a bud. It is so pretty. I didn't know it would bloon during the winter. I also have a Bearded Iris from Weegy, called Twice Thrilling that is blooming now also. It has more buds on it than it's ever had.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Well, I didn't know it would bloom now either, it must love HB. Mine are just barely putting up some leaves. I'll have to go take a look at all of the iris I got from Weege...they're potted and I don't think any of them are anywhere near blooming right now. There are more and more of us 'goats'...my three immediate female neighbors are all Cappys...I've never seen this many together. Jer says it must be a vortex and he's not always fond of any of us....lol...I remember that Jerry is a Cappy...I think I'm 6 days older than him, right?
My Dad is no longer ailing...he died two weeks ago. No condolences needed, he wanted to go and it's a great relief for him and myself. Both of my parents were lucky. 12 days for my Mom and then she was gone..one month for my Dad.

Gilroy (Sunset Z14), CA(Zone 9a)

Glad he didn't suffer and linger, and that you were able to spend time with him at the end. I'm sure it meant a lot to both of you.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Thank you...

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I'm so sorry Sherry, I hadn't read that he had passed. :-(

Lots of hugs,
Donna

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Thank you, I hadn't really mentioned it. It's over, it's done and I hope that he's now having a good time. He was one of 13 children, with only one brother now left living, so I hope they were all waiting for him.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Happy Belated Birthday Sherry. Sounds like you had a good one.
I was sorry to read about your dad.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Thanks, weege...these things happen. I have yet to find a way to avoid them. All things must pass....

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

That's for sure Sherry.
Enjoy your BD week!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Happy Birthday Sherry!!! Hope your day is as nice as this Southern California weather.

Glad to hear your dad's passing was quiet and painless. It's amazing that the only memories I have of my father are good ones now. I can't even remember what the negative things about him were. Death tends to wash away all the bad and shine a light on all the goodness. My best thoughts are with you Sherry.

Happy Birthday Sherry! I was non compos mentis yesterday - how did I miss your day??

Glad you have been enjoying yourself and glad your dad did not linger. Now, let's stretch this birthday out a little...............................

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Happy Birthday, Sherry. I have been lurking in the CA forum for awhile - with a few contributions here and there. But I feel like I am beginning to know some of the regulars here.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Soilsandup, do not lurk! Jump in!

Sherry, hope you had a fun birthday and have a greater new year!

You will love the Monterey Aquarium, Sherry! The living displays on seahorses are just so incredible. I had no idea how many oddly beautiful ones there are!

I have wanted to go to Cambria for a long time now. Have you been before? Anything special you do there? I think they may have perfect weather there! LOL

I know it must have been very hard to say goodbye to your Dad but you are right. There are worse things than a fast death. My Mom had such a cruel long ending, I still have nightmares about it 5 years later.

Here is a Leaf Lettuce Seahorse from the Monterey Aquarium for your birthday. Kind of like a plant to keep in theme of DG. LOL

Kell, that's a cool seahorse. :-)

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

No, we've not been to the Aquarium before...each time we're through there we're in too much of a hurry or it's too busy. Looking forward to it greatly. Cambria I go to evey time I get a chance...has some great shops though I do miss the bakery as it used to be and I miss the great deli that used to be there. Stop and watch the sea lions, just sit at the beach north of town and read. It makes my heart soar to just 'be there'....

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Happy belated birthday Sherry! Sorry I missed you on the actual day but hope it was a good one! I agree with Kell, you will love the Aquarium--I haven't been there in a couple years but it was very cool to see. Now's a good time of year to go too because the tourists aren't around as much so it shouldn't be as crowded.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Thanks, Liz...yeah, I don't do crowds well....lol...last time we were going to go it was a rainy November day when we were passing through. I thought there would be nobody there, but I'd failed to think about it being Veteran's Day. They were packed.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Well then don't do this weekend--it's Martin Luther King day on Monday so lots of people will have 3-day weekends! Although it'll probably be mostly "local" tourists from the Bay Area, since it's so soon after the holidays and it's January I don't think too many people from elsewhere in the country will be traveling out here so maybe it wouldn't be too bad.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Maybe with the rain expected not too many people will venture out, I HOPE! We were thinking we would go on a whale watching boat this weekend but now with the rain we are going to go to the aquarium again!

I was looking at my aquarium pics from 2007, They have a great jellyfish display too. In 2007 it was much better than 2009 I now realize.

This one is the most colorful jellyfish tank and is still there.

PS Thanks Donna!

And so were these! OK, I am so psyched to go now! LOL. I hope you are too Sherry!

lol.....since I've retired I hardly pay attention to what day it is, let alone holidays. I had no idea that this weekend is MLK Day. Since they've still not done the cremation (I'm wondering about this place), we wouldn't make it this weekend anyway and will go on a week day when we go. Thanks for the alert, Liz.....

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am the same way! One day runs into another. When you do get there, post pictures! If you wait till after March29th, you will get to see their new Hot Pink Flamingos:
