Plant Computer Program You Should Look AT.

Agawam, MA(Zone 6a)

I’ve been using a plant computer program for the last couple of years that I think people should take a look at. The company is designing it for hybridizing plants. They started with daylilies and are expanding their program to include Lilium, Roses, Irises, Hosta’s, Perennials, etc. The program is fairly reasonable at $29.95, and they have been including all updates at that price. The prgram allows you to add pictures, pertient informatin, etc. The people offer great support and try to change the program to what their customers like to see in their organization of plants. It allows you to enter your plants providing information that you feel is important. I think you might find it useful.

I just purchased this a week ago and am loving it. It will be fun this next summer to be able to have someplace to record the date of the FFO and other information and then compare it from year to year. I will use it for daylilies, Iris and lilies. One thing I've never done is to record who I bought different things from and that will be something I can do easily now. Very user friendly program.

Susan,
I like it too. You will find that Ken is very helpful. Also, make sure that you let him know of the changes that you would like to see. I've offered some changes but, you have so much more experience then I do with lilies. I think you can offer better changes.

This program appears to be exactly what I need. However, I use a Mac Air and wonder if the program will run. Anyone know of anyone who uses it on a Mac? - Anne

bachngolf go to the website and send Kent an email with your question. He always answers messages. I have had this program since it came out in 2002 and love it.

I too would guess that the person who made the program should know this. As a Mac user myself, I certainly understand that some programs don't work. Though with Mac gaining in the marketshare (slowly, but surely) it is more possible these days to have programmers that make it useable for both Mac and pc users.

Hi Magnolialover: I wrote an email to the programmer and will let you know what he says. - Anne

Kent just emailed me the following:

Hello Anne,
Thanks for your interest in the Flower program.
There is a way to run Windows programs on a Mac and there are a few people
who use the Flower program on their Macs. Not sure about a Mac Air.

Can you run Windows programs on your Mac ?
Thanks,
Kent

Essentially, he doesn't know. I'm going to order the program and then we'll all know!

Virtual PC is a way to run a Windows Program on a Mac. I don't enjoy using that program :( Many programmers these days allow it to run on both a straight Mac and a straight pc, no extra hassles. Do let us know how it works for you. It sounds like fun. Good Luck!

So Far - still appears I'd have to buy a copy of Windows for my Mac (which I don't want to do because it takes so much room, is expensive, and I only want to run this one application)!

Perhaps I'll look for a cheap used PC.....
