Cat on Hib

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

I just found this on my var. hibiscus. It was in the greenhouse but it's not heated so I didn't want to chance loosing it. I thought the leaf was dying so when I went to pick it off I found this lil fella on the reverse. I can't tell really well what color because of the silk webbing it's is but looks very pale green w/ possible light/white mottling

Bump

From your discription, it sounds like one of the "good guys" that hangs out near/on the flowers & nabs bugs as they come for the nectar & pollen. one of the crab spiders...maybe
Here is a pic of one building on a leaf: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Rkq7u7m3ZpE/SGI-rFN_g4I/AAAAAAAAAUw/z1gklFx12iE/s400/DSCN5334.JPG

It is kinda hard to see but it's a pale green cat w/ what looks like white spots or mottling.Guess I'll keep it araound and see what comes out later

With a newer monitor and your good description, I think somebody can figure it out.

I believe that it will be very difficult to get a positive i.d. without a photograph of it outside of the webbing. There are several species of leaf-rolling caterpillars (not to mention some sawfly larvae) that can have a similar appearance.

I dealt w/ sawfly cats on hibs before ...this is much bigger. I don't want to take it out of it's silk and kill it w/o knowing what it is.
