hi guys,
we have been having a lot of spiders through our place in sydney in the last couple of months.
plenty of landscaping has been done in our yard, as has been done in the two neighbouring properties. This may have removed homes of many spiders.
I think this is a just a harmless huntsmen, although i have never seen one with such a fat body before.
We have young children so quite concerned until we clear this up.
No one bitten, all is ok, but we have found so many dangerous looking black spiders at other times in last few weeks, it is just freaking us out a little.
spider in pool, really fat body please help
Although its legs seem relatively short, its overall posture certainly seems consistent with that of a huntsman spider (family Sparassidae). See http://tinyurl.com/8a6xe for an image of another relatively chubby Australian species.
