I woke up this morning to find that Braveheart had died last night in his sleep. He was my constant companion for over 10 years. I am holding on to the thought that I was lucky to have him for as long as I did, but I miss him terribly.
Sad day for our family.
Oh Jen, I am so sorry! I will be praying for you and your family. When I lost my Chows it was like I had lost a best friend each time. They are so precious!
Jeanne
How sad. i remember when our lab died, it was so hard.
Your in my thoughts.
He sure was a big pretty boy!
Barb
I am sending warm thoughts your way - am saddened at the loss of your fur baby.
Sorry for your loss. Judging by the picture, it seems that he felt the same way!
Condolences from a fellow dog lover in Aruba. Dogs can be such an important and fun part of your life, but the pain of losing them is tough to bear. Remember all the good times you had together!
Aw, Jenn...I am so sad to hear he is gone. He had a lovely life with you...was so loved and taken well care of... now in the Land of the Great Endless Bones and Tennis Balls, he will be remembering you too!!!
Big Hugs,
Carol
So sorry to hear he passed!!!
My condolences as well, it's the cost of having so much love and joy in your life but it is always so hard.
Braveheartsmom, my heart aches with you. Cherish the wonderful memories he leaves you with. I have read many posts you have made, at times holding my side while laughing. Treasures like a loyal friend are hard to find.
Sorry to hear of your loss. At the same time there's no real answer to this type of situation, it's never easy. There was a program on TV here recently about the situation of people passing on and their pets being left behind with no one to look after them. It becomes a very complex issue. In many respects it's better that the pets have a good life and are properly cared for to the end. It's not easy.
Oh Jenny, how sad!!! i know what it feels like to lose such a precious friend, we have lost three recently. dogs are so precious, they are so loyal and loving. i am glad you had him as long as you did, but the downside of being a dogowner is that you have to say goodbye to them....
i am thinking of you and your family, you are in my prayers.
take care,
isaac
Oh, Jenny...
We are so, so sorry for your loss. Although I never met Braveheart, I always called Gail over whenever you posted a picture of him. My favorite was when he would park his hind quarters on people's lap.
He was obviously a very good companion. You will miss him a lot. May you find some comfort in the facts that he was loved every day of his life, that it always got the best care available and that he was taken away in his sleep without suffering or lingering illness. Cherish the memories of the times you shared with him. The pain will eventually subside.
Gail and I are animal lovers. We share your grief. We mope around whenever we lose one of our fish and we take great delight in our delightful snake, Lucy. I wish I were there to hug you and cry with you.
Take care.
Pu'ole, a.k.a. Sylvain.
Thank you all so much for your kind thoughts. Yesterday was a hard day as you can imagine. I am very happy that I didn't have to make the "ultimate" decision and he died peacefully - it was an awful shock to us all, even though we knew his time was coming. Candy spent most of the day waiting by the front door for him to come home, which was sad, but I guess to be expected. We will now have to face the same thing with her as she is also over 10 - a very old age for a great dane.
I look forward to the day I will see him again when my time comes.
Peace to all for the New Year.
Jenn
Oh no! I am so sorry Jenny. What a magnificent creature he was....
I'm so very sorry you have lost your buddy. We went through a lingering illness with one of our's this year and finally let her go in September. She was probably waiting for your big guy at the gate, to run with her. We still grieve for her and our other furbaby does as well, her time is not too far away, she is 15.
losing a pet is so difficult! Our Bull terrier, whom we loved dearly, died of cancer a few months ago. we also still grieve her.
Jen, do you think you will get another dog?
Louise was killed 18 months ago and I still can't bear to think of it...and cry often. They deserve it!!!!
Jenn, a tribute for Braveheart

and all of our lost loves.
So sad :(
take a good care both you and your beloved pal.
Thank you all for your kind support, it means a lot to us. The Rainbow Bridge was lovely Moon, and I have printed it out for Mom, thank you. I am sure she will find it very comforting as she is having a very hard time with our loss as Braveheart was her main companion while I was at work, and she loved him dearly
Alistair, I still think of Turbo often, what a character and scamp he was...! I was so glad to have "known" him.
Carol, I know how very hard the loss of your beloved Louise still is for you - I am so glad that Braveheart didn't go in the same horrific manner as Turbo and Louise did. Hopefully they are all running together on another plane, young and happy and waiting for us...
To everyone who has taken the time to post, I thank you so much. You are all such dear people.
Jenn
You are a very dear and special person too, Jen.
I sincerely hope it helps her some, Jenn. Not an easy time for any of you.
Jenn, how is Candy doing? I did think of your Mum alot during this...how hard on her...and Candy must be confused. The loss of a beloved pet is one of the worst losses...
Dear Jenn,
This is rather late but I was out of the country for a while. I feel for your loss coz I am a dog-person too. At home in Pasig, I have 2 basset hounds, 2 whippets and 2 mixed breeds of Japanese spitz/chow-chow. I know how one can be SOOOO attached to loveable pets and your braveheart is such a handsome dog!
Jen, found this thread only last night and tried to call you on the phone. Knowing it is coming and time in the nature of things does not ease the pain at all. You know we had to put Hannah down last year and I still miss her. Braveheart was truly a magnificent animal and a super host. I loved it when he turned around and sat right down in my lap. What a sweetheart. Please hug Margaret for me and let her know I fully understand and share all of your feelings. Life is filled with sorrow sometimes.
I love you and yours dearly.
PK
My condolences. I have nine dogs with me. We adopted them from the streets. So I understand what it is to lose a very special friend.
A big Hug,
Roxana
Very sorry to hear of your loss Jenn :(
Oh, I am sorry to hear about your loss. Many hugs!
I feel for you. I have an 8 year old Labrador that is showing his age and 2 four month old Great Danes that are gorgeous with wonderful characters and very intelligent.
It will hurt like hell to lose any of them.
Another bad week here. We had to put our other Great Dane, Candy, to sleep on Wednesday. Luckily our vet makes house calls because Candy had fallen down and couldn't get up and I have no idea how Mom and I would have been able to get her into the car as Frank was off Island, she came and said that it was time.... We were lucky to have had them both for 11 years.
Skywolf, Danes are a wonderful breed - may you have many years of enjoyment with them, we miss ours terribly.
Jenn
oh Jenn, i am so, so ,so sorry! losing a precious companion is so sad and difficult. I am thinking of you.
isaac
Jen, I'm so sorry. How fortunate I am to have had them sit in my lap. Truly dignified and precious animals. I know how much you miss them both.
Our love to you,
Christi aka Princess Kilikina
Jen, Gail and I send our sincere condolences on the loss of your faithful companion. May the happy memories remain all your life and may the pain subside quickly. I'll burn a stick of insense for her.
Big hugs. Wish I were closer.
Pu'ole, a.k.a. Sylvain.
What a happy picture. I want to be there.......whine.....
Sorry to hear Candy passed on. I always loved hearing about the dogs.
Great pic of you all too!!
