Looking Back on 2009

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Its time to remenise about the past year's best and any changes in our gardens.
Some DG'ers keep beautiful photo records of their turf.
I am hopeing all will share.
I put together an album to send to friends in lieu of a card this year.
Thought it would be a good start for this thread.

NICE for you but I only have 1 word.

A lovely album JoAnn. I particularly like that you included some of your wonderful paintings. Your lasagna bed seems to be doing very well as is the rest of your plantings.
Here is a series of pics from my side path garden starting in late May.

Sherrie I hope 2010 is a much better year for you and everyone.

and this from August.
I could certainly do with a little less rain and a lot less slugs and fungus that all the wet encouraged. Hoping that this coming season will be a bit better balanced as far as the weather is concerned.

very nice patti and joann

i's have to have a my own thread to catalog the changes here - my hope is i do not have the time to do as much next year.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I've got all my fingers and toes crossed that the weather in the NE is better for 2010 gardening too! That is a wonderful album ge. I like the plantings around the foundation of your house. I luv the new path ngam and WOWSER did it ever fill in beautifully! I made a few changes in 2009 - new dahlia patch, new patio and new arbour with paths, as well expanding some beds with my trusty edger ^_^ My pics are all scattered about and not organized yet to post.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Bill I have been spending and planting in hopes I will get to see a wonderful garden when I can no longer work it.Yours are doing so well.
I hope my mature beds look as wonderful as Ngams.
I just pulled in my breath at the August photo.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Ge, I've been peeking through your album and I love it. I have been adding pictures to mine in the last few days. I still have a few albums to get in there. I have been sorting my pictures so I can do albums that show how the different areas change through the season. I'll let you know when I get them in there. The Shed garden album is similar to how I want them. That one was quick to do, because it's small and newly planted so there's not as many pictures as some of my other areas.
Wow ngam those are some beautiful shots! I would like to get parts of my yard to that point eventually. I love the paths with gardens on each side.

Here's a link to my Picasa album. I've still been adding to it.

Merideth!
Let me know how you do the Progression album.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Thanks everyone for the nice words. Bill there is no way on this green earth that I could do all that you do in your garden. From all that you have shared here with us it is a work of art, no question.
Meredith your albums are wondeful. I really like the butterfly garden. Have not gone through all of them but the ones I have are just lovely.
If you would like to see more pics of my garden from last season and earlier they are here: http://ngam.winkflash.com/

very nice meredith - i like the clover in the grass:)

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

thx patti - i think you do pretty well yourself, nothing here like that garden path - it is always incredible to me how everything fills in from when spring comes.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks so much everyone, after I posted the link I started going through photos and uploading more stuff. I lost track of time and now it's already lunchtime. I think I have to ban myself from the pc for a while. : ) I can't wait to look at more of everyone's photos after I get some housework done that is. : )

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Very lovely collections of great photos, JoAnn, Pat and Meredith. I can tell that it took you a long time to put these albums together and I enjoyed touring your 2009 successes!

Happy New Year!

Beautiful gardens, and beautiful pictures Jo Ann, Patti, and Meredith. Obviously a lot of time, and love spent in those gardens.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Ya got that riiiiight.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

ric i am sure you will

need to put on paper my list of 2010 projects - most are bed expansions or amending the soil, not sure if i will need the 20 yds of dirt this year maybe only 17:), more musical chairs with bushes/trees/plants, major rock collecting from across the small pond out back which will include ferrying them over by canoe, and more.

Fantastic.
I love the deck swing.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

AYC that is terrific. What a contrast and what a great job. I like the birdbath area and natural edging. That swing does look very inviting.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

The swing came with the house. I just seldom use it as there is no door out of the house onto the deck.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I love seeing all the garden progressions via the links.

schickenlady, Sorry for your miserable year . I could have had a better one, but out of about 65 it wasn't the worst one.

Ge1836, my DH is mad for your birdhouse. Me too. You had a very busy year outside and in. I loved seeing all the work you did on the kitchen.

Meredith79, Your collections are stunning, especially love the butterfly collection.

ngam, so glad you posted your collections too. I love the winter one....NOT. Just kidding.

AYankeeCat, what a great transformation. By now, I am working with old bones(mine and the shrubs) in our garden, and I have no shots of the start of it, which is sad. I hope you post more of it this next season. And maybe a door.

I started a collection of shots for 2009 that ends in late July....when I hit a bad patch.... but by Nov, I was able to be back at it again and DH and I planted over 3000 bulbs. I was determined not to let a little medical issue stop my 2010 spring show. Last shot of the season was this Asclepias tuberosa on Dec 2 2009. Enjoy. Patti

Patti,

Sorry to hear you had a medical issue.

My gosh, girl, your gardens are gorgeous! I have always thought Boojums were the most beautiful in the world, but you are right up there. What an eye for color you have! Oh my gosh! I will look at these pictures over and over again.

I want to tell you how happy I am to see some of my irises there. I'm so glad they went to such a beautiful home.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

PollyK, You are too kind. I will find a few more places this spring for a few more of your babies. It will be my pleasure. Patti

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Your albums are fantastic.I especially liked the Endless Stream, progression.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Patti you and your DH have made an ideal landscape for your home. A real eye for grouping trees, shrubs and plants. I am glade you share the results of all your hard work with all of us here. I do envy the bones and space of your garden and the help of strong muscles. A wonderful journey through the season and an inspiration to plant more bulbs myself.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I thought I didnt have anymore room for bulbs. The different varieties of fritts will be going into my garden now that I have my new LeeVally tools.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

OMG YC you did SO much in one season! It looks wonderful! Patti I always drooooooool over the sweeps/drifts you have made in your garden sigh.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

What a great way to describe the scene.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

How many different varieties of daffs do you have Patti?

I can see now I need MANY more. I will work on that this fall.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

beautiful patti

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Wow A Yankee Cat what a transformation!
I already have Patti as a favorite on my Picasa album, so much inspiration!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

PollyK, current I have 259 named and labeled ones in the garden. I have some older ones that I am still trying to id. But I do love them. I am trying to get them all photographed. Here are some of them. Patti http://picasaweb.google.com/bbrookrd/NAMEDNARCISSUSINACKGARDEN?feat=directlink

South Hamilton, MA

Wonderful work all!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I love them too, Patti, and will definitely get more. I just can't keep track of all the names of every cultivar of every plant. I don't know how you do it.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I am making a 2010 resolution to take more flower pictures. This is the 3rd year for my garden so it shouldnt be that hard.Bbrookrd is my inspiration.
