Papaya Seed

Anyone ever try to grow a Papaya seed? Sure would like some instructions. Got the fruit off, I love papaya.
Now I want to grow it. Should I crack the shell? Wonder how long it will take??

If you don't get another answer, I know my neighbor has a tree in his yard and they don't eat them and the fruit falls to the ground and he has many baby trees every spring. So my guess would be they need a moist-cold stratification. Perhaps if your weather gets close to freezing now, I suggest winter sowing them now. Of course, my neighbor doesn't mess with them, so I don't think cracking the shell would be necessary.

Oops, I thought about this while I was eating that I had noticed you are in GA. Our what we call papaya (Asimina triloba), but more likely here called pawpaw, may not be the same as what you have. Seeds are large and hard shell, so I'm guessing similar anyway. Sorry for any confusion if it's not.

There's no problem. i really meant a Mango, so I goofed too. Just got to figure out how long to wait to try to pry the seed apart. It has a kernal in it like a bean I have to get out. So, don't feel bad. i have a passion fruit tree going that I got started from a seed. An Avacado I thought died is sprounting a few leaves so where there is life ther is hope. So Hopefully my tree will come back.

Yes, those Mango seeds are huge. Best wishes in getting it germinated as that sounds like fun. I know I've tried Avacado and they take forever sometimes, but here the tree must be grown indoors in huge pots once it gets big. Mango sounds so fun I just may try to find a nice one here (which is difficult after eating them fresh in CA and Mexico), and try germinating the seed.

I will hasve to grow it in a big pot after I get it started. Now got to wait for the seed to dry. I love Mangos. They taste so good. I'm not too wild over the passion fruit. I think you have to acquire a taste for it and I'm not there yet. ☺ Papayas. I don't know about it. They have the tiny black seed in the middle?? I know I got a little tree of something. But I do want that mango to grow.
