Apropos of Nothing v.6

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

Lynn., the rooters come in sets of four :) I got both sets (pastel and autumn colors) because I spread the word that was what I wanted.

As to only being able to rescue one cat..... You ever hear the starfish story? It may not be much but it made a difference to that one! Every single one makes a difference. If people who could rescue just one would do it, there would be none left homeless. You are just as wonderful to us and that kitty as us nuts with 6 or 7 or...more.

Thanks for making me feel better. I just thought they should have told us that she was already spayed. It was our doing to take her there and yes, they should be paid for their time and the anesthesia, etc.

I told my son, Shilo, about the cats. He lives in Grand Junction, CO. Would you send one there? He has a soft heart for cats. His dog died over the Christmas season. He had rescued him from a shelter, the dog had several seizures and Shilo gave him special care. Well, my son came home because a school friend had committed suicide, and a friend of his was going to take care of the dog and cat. The friend walked in and found the poor dog, he had a seizure and fell against something, cut himself and bled to death. My son was heartsick, he didn't want to come home and leave the dog anyway, I talked him into it. To make things even sadder, the night of the memorial service for his friend, another classmate friend died.

Lynn, that is immensely tragic. I am so sorry your son has lost has lost just too much at once.

Eugene, OR

Lynn, how awful for your son. Wishing him comfort.

Ginger....where did the rooters come from. My mom gave me money to get a gift. LOL

(Judi)Portland, OR

Lynn, I am so sorry that your son has had to cope with so much all at once, and for you, as it is difficult to watch a child suffer. I know as a parent you want to make it all better but sometimes we just can't. Just be there for him. Thinking about you, even though we have never met.

I am also interested in the rooters - they are exquisite!

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

I am not sure if it's okay to post the link...If so let me know and I will......Meanwhile it's in your D-mail!

Lynn I too lost much in a single day and it I feel made me a stronger young man. All on the same day I lost my childhood friend, Tom, to a rocket in Vietnam, my girfriend who I loved for 9 years dumped me for a rich new boyfriend. Her parents being my surrogate parents with my alcholic father. And receiving a draft notice to appear with a low lottery number. And a day later being diagnosed with Diabetes. All this knocked me down only to rise with self determination to restore hope and purpose for all this. Thank goodness for my Diabetes because it kept me from Vietnam, but limited my life to accept the limitations of the disease. I now know that this too was a gift to prevent me from doing what I feel would have isolated me in a life of adventure without the joy of relationship with my wife.
I pray for your son to find the inspiration to find his Creator to lift him into life's joy with the challenges it brings.

Lynn and Sofer, Big hugs for you both.

Tracy had minor surgery today- he had a small para-umbilical hernia corrected. He's gonna be a bit sore round his belly for a while, but everything went fine and he's resting comfortably now. (Thanks to the Vicodin.. LOL)

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

HI and hugs to Tracy. Hope he's hopping around real soon.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

ROFL! OMG you guys. You have got to watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_c6HsiixFS8

Every time I thought I had seen the stupidest person ever, someone even more moronic comes along. It's scary. o.0

That video is scary - maybe it's a hoax???

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Well we know that she is NOT a conservative. LOL

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

he he he...

"Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?"

Evidently not. This video, as completely hysterical as it is, also depresses me. Where is this woman's brain hiding? How does she get by in life?

Eugene, OR

I agree Pix, that really is sad. But I've known people like that and there's no way you can convince them that there's a perfectly logical explanation.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

You can sense by her intonation that she is a hurt and angry person. Possibly due to the limitations of her abilities. I know my wife deals with fetal alcohol effects every day and those kids never had a chance. Maybe learning is very difficult for her.

(Judi)Portland, OR

I once knew a woman who wore sheets of tin foil on her head to protect her brain from the conspirators who were trying to take over her thoughts. For the same reason, she would not have a color television set, but black & white was fine. She also carried a hockey stick for protection. She was clearly mentally ill and untreated, and I put the rainbow person in the same category. I did laugh at the video, but then felt a bit bad about it - poor thing! Maybe all those snails and slugs we smashed will rise up from the earth and take over our brains!!! Then in the mornings we will be seen writhing on the ground in search of tender sprouts to go with our coffee.......

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Does the tin foil not work? I thought thats why you see so many women in hairdressers getting those little neatly folded wraps around bits of their hair. When the hairdresser is applying them they look as though they are desperate for a cigarette, but they all look so happy when they come out that I am absolutely convinced tin foil on your head gives you a high.

"Does the tin foil not work?"

Apparently, as in the course of my duties as a police officer many years ago I ran into several people who did that. Some even lined their mailboxes as well. Well, except for the poor woman who was getting poisoned by her popcorn. I recommended she switch to Jiffy Pop. That seemed to solve that problem.

Last year living in Eugene there were a couple people who wore tinfoil hats and I noticed their windows were also lined.....Whatever makes them happy works :)

For me... in the daylight hours coffee seems to keep away vampires, aliens and the like.. tigers too as I never see any around. Not so good for warding off cougars though. At night.. nothing has better protective quality than good red wine. I recommend chocolate for anytime.

Ginger

Gold Beach, OR(Zone 9a)

That video was funny. Sad but funny. Now I can tell you that the jiffy pop suggestion was awesome, of course it worked, it has foil. I had a neighbor who had a brother who was schizo, but brilliant. He would talk to me and give me a headache, the information was accurate but twisted. And he would always give me some lucky rocks wrapped in foil, once he gave me some that belonged to his buddy, King Tut. He explained to me I had to keep them or bad things would happen. So for years I had little bunches of rocks in foil here and there. Then I realized that I had to get rid of them. I did and waited for bad things to happen. I actually sometimes think all the tv and radio signals that go through us may be bad....and the foil would deflect them, no?

Sofer, I admire anyone who can work with kids like that. Its so sad. I had a job when I was in high school working with challenged kids. I could not do it, it was the combination of sadness and frustration that got me. In my book, she is a hero.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

I agree that she is also. She has done it for over 32 years. That is how she puts up with me. She is an angel.

Cedarhome, WA(Zone 8b)

Beadmom, I have it on good authority that a drop of tea tree oil on your horse's haunches will keep cougars off 'em (told to me in total seriousness...)
