Seed Swap January 23rd in Mount Bethel PA

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

I wanted to point out that the Lobelia Queen Victoria that I've posted seeds for is the Red Cardinal flower with black stems and purple foliage.

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10b)

I am currently getting my lists together while lunching and waiting for returned phone calls. I seem getting more than I am giving seedwise, I'll have to bring extra treats to make up for it! The plan is trying Julia Child's double chocolate chip cookie recipe from her baking book, I'll see what else I can come up with. I am perpetually dieting, but consistently voluptuous, so it is fun for me to bake something. I do the high protein thing 360 days a year and have treats 5. Swap day will be a treat day!

I have been adding to my offered list (and am putting up my getting list). I may have more to add when my piggy swap box gets here (sent yesterday priority). I also have special seeds that a wonderful Dave's member offered to send me when I posted questions in the related forum. I am excited and planning to share, but not going to say anything until I have them in hand.

I have been keeping track of my haves and wants in a single list in Notebook. It is easier for me to cut and paste to that and later to my spreadsheet. Just mentioning it because it may help others.

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

GQ,

Please don't harbor the feeling that you will not have enough seed for the swap. We really can get all the seeds we want by buying and swapping privately, but the group social thing is what we are really looking for.

Your cookies sound great and I'm sure that will be enough.

If the seeds that you receive in the swap should turn into successful plants, we can talk about harvesting and trading them in the future. The thing is for you to get enough for a good start.

Regards

Teri

Me, too, Jen. My selection is pretty pitiful, but I'll bring them anyway. What was I thinking? I didn't collect any seed last year. AACCKKK!!!
This will be my first time, so I don't feel comfortable asking for any seeds. Just looking forward to the get-together. Still haven't decided on what to bring to eat.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

please.. ask away .. I know I don't care about getting a return

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10b)

Jan23, please ask for seeds! Why have seeds sitting around getting old when they could be growing and making the world more beautiful!

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Jan, please ask for some of my seeds. I have no intention to create more beds to fit plants from all the seeds that I have. Together we will talk about harvesting the seeds when the time comes. Right now we need to thing SOWING.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Yay!! The Jersey girls are coming!!! Jan, I will be offended if you don't take some of my seeds!!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

LOL My arm hurts from being twisted. Okay, I'll have to look through the lists again.

Off hand
the red lobelia ( if any left) I'll post this on the other thread for wants / haves
peas

I've got to go back to the top and start again. ^_^

Jan 23 and Flowergen and anyone else worried about not having enough seeds to trade:

We are just happy to meet and have you with us!!! Most of my seed offerings are from commercial packages not what I have harvested. I will be more alert this summer to harvesting seeds for swaps. So don't worry about equalizing the trades. I am very happy to share my seeds and hear of people's successes with flowers or plants I love. I am excited that so many of you from are joining us. Pretty soon the New Jersey group will outnumber the PA group!!

By the way, Jan23, I live next door to Wind Gap! My husband went to High School in Pen Argyl! It's a small world.

So far the Swap has 13 definite attendees (weather permitting) and possibly one more. That's a nice number for our first one but maybe a few others will decide to come at the last minute when they see how enthusiastically we are trading!!! Besides great food should be another nice draw!!

Ok I'm confused..... is it you(Jessica) or Teri having the swap?

I've been to swaps before so I'm not the least bit concerned about not having a lot of seeds. Everyone always comes away with something.
I'm basically coming for some socializing, haven't seen everyone in awhile.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Jen, Teri/Roses is hosting the swap at her home. Jessica/Gardadore is helping Teri organize the swap.

East Stroudsburg, PA

Hi, Jessica,
Sorry I haven't communicated in a while. Just want you to know I'll contribute with a few desserts. That is one thing I gravitate toward when I no longer can dig in the soil. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you.
Best regards,
Ronni

Saylorsburg, PA(Zone 6a)

Thank you, Ronni. Your contribution will be most appreciated!! Looking forward to meeting you at Teri's!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Thanks.

Jessica, I saw that you are just over t he hill from Wind Gap. My folks owned the property that is a trailer park now, at the north end of town, way before Rt 33 went through. They condemned their property to put the road through. (eminent domain - I think that's what it's called) I think their house has been torn down. I remember there was a trail that led up the hill to the Appalachian Trail.

I saw a mention of a garden item for the table. Is there a $ limit or can you give me some ideas of what you have in mind?

I am excited!

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Jan, People contribute all sorts of things to the prize table without any real regard to the dollar value. So it's a real mix. A lot of times, it things people don't use any longer or have too much of. Other times it's crafts or personal items, and of course, plants. Decorative garden items , supplies, tools, pots, gloves, anything of interest.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Thanks for the ideas.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I'm going to mail my box out tomorrow to Stormy.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Ronnie. It's going to be strange to have 2 Ronnie's, it not such a common name.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

speaking of Wind Gap.. there is a piece of video shot when I was barrel racing there... the place is Linda Brewer's in Nazareth.. can't remember the farm name at the moment.. it's at the 3:16 mark.. right in the middle

Looking good Allison!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thanks.. wish I still had that shape!!!

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Carolyn & Lady, Your seed packages arrived today. I will open and sort them later.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Look at those flying lead changes. Nice horse you got there!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thanks... don't have him anymore though

:(

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I don't have any at all any more. We had them for 18 years what fun it was.
Here are a couple of old threads with pics of my kids and their ponies. The second one has several pics of Jen jumping Rainbow. The little black pony La Petite was fast and she did well in the 4H games like barrels racing, poles, and she flew like the wind over those little short jumps.
Here are the links if you have time to look.

I have added some more seeds to trade. I am still getting the piggy swap seeds organized. I hope the warm weather doesn't confuse my wintersown seeds too much. Time will tell.

I still have to come up with something for the prize table and get baking!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Which are we in more need? Dessert or bread?

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

I have some garlic bread prepared along with soup, salad and lasagna. I'm not sure what everyone else is bringing in the way of desserts or breads.

Maybe we should start posting if you think that it is necessary.

Either way, we should have a grand time sharing seeds, food, gifts and most of all good company.

Can't wait to see you all.

Regards,

Teri

I asked Ric to make the same cake that he made for my B-day. You may remember that Black Forest cake. Not as easy to eat as brownies or cookies but I'll bring little plates & forks for it. Maybe something else as well.

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Sounds great Holly,

I will have all the plates and forks that we might need. JUST BRING THE CAKE!!!!

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10b)

OMG, Black Forest cake is my favorite! There is a restaurant called the Black Forest Inn over the border in NJ. One of my favorite places. I am still getting organized. I have added a few more seeds to my have list part 2.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I know the black forest inn.. good stuff!

Michele is going to make some cold cut wraps.. will check out the updated seeds

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Folks, at the swap can someone volunteer to help me make sure that the mail in participants get some nice selections from the unclaimed seeds? Everybody sent a good assortment for the swap. I need to fill 4 peoples's orders. Thanks!
