WESTERN HUMMINGBIRDS VOL.9
Great shots dirt! Thanks for starting the new thread!
Good job Dirt!! Loved the last one in the last thread too with the ornie above the feeder- cute. I'm anxious to get over this nasty bug so I can get more pictures of my hummers. They're staying in the trees and not up near the feeders because of the nasty cold winds we've been getting.
Until I get outside, I'll have to run through some old photos I've never posted.
Very sweet duc!
dirt_in_ozone7b - pretty Hummer.
and ducbucln - hope you get totally well soon - its Christmas!

Get well duc! Dirt LUV the ornament on the feeder. I might do that in the spring.
Reporting in from Green Valley AZ. A hummer buzzed us on the golf course today . I was SO excited I didn't get a pic. Oops. Looked like a juvenile Anna. The women whose red pockets on her golf bag attracted it said they were flocked with hummingbirds this summer but didn't know what they were. Over and out from Green Valley AZ. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays my hummer friends. ps I wonder if I can find a red golf bag pdq?
If the hummer are in California and Arizona then they must be here. I better get some feeders out just in case.
Good plan SKWinter!
You do realize Las Vegas is a very short jump, by plane, to Las Vegas. The only problem is this next week is New Year Eve week and flights are probably higher because they are usually very cheap. They call Las Vegas Sin City but it is only about 20 square miles of sin. That is the Strip and Downtown. The rest of the city, where real Christian families live is a normal city anywhere neighborhood. My cousins have snow bird places in Yuma. They love it. They live in Washington and Oregon.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE.
Duc hope your feeling better and
everyone -- here's hoping Santa gave
what you wanted (or deserve--- pleez no satin jammies, santa)
Dahlia-- wonderful to have those little guys
greet you down there in playland and
SKW hope you see them there.
The king for the day is up in Lauder's Walking Stick just praising the
sun rise and rasping Merrry Christmas to his friends and kin.
Its cold outside and frozen, and there is too much warmth and
fun inside to wait for them to get closer. Have a happy holiday.
No Hummers here now, much too cold. 12 degrees this morning and may get up to mid 20s this afternoon . We have been having nice sunny afternoons. Snow is all gone, but ground is frozen. For past few winters my youngest son in Lake Tapps (for you dirt) has had a couple of Annas hummers. Has had to thaw the feeder several times. I have lots of hummers in summer, Black Chinned, Calliope, and Roufus.
This winter so many English(House) sparrows, keep the other smaller birds away. No Juncos. I am trying not to keep any food out for the E. sparrows, but they are still here.

I was looking up AZ birds this morning and they have blue-throated hummers here. I hope I see one!
Are still down in our neck of the woods. Weather is suppose to be wonderful today. Enjoy.
LOL I made friends with a road runner today (thanks to a multigrain bagel). No blue-throated hummers yet!
I have roadrunners on my back fence or in the greenbelt on a daily basis.
Also quail, mocking birds, jackells (very aggressive black birds), robins, and dove. We also have these darling little yellow Verdins. When I first saw them I thought they were an escaped canary. Thank goodness the pigeons are further down the street. They do not like my property. Probably the cat.
That's a nice variety Sharon. I think road runners are so cute!
Yes, I have a great variety but did you notice. Except for the verdins, they are all dull brown birds. But they are great to watch. I have three hummingbird nests that keep getting rehabbed and used every year. Last year had a new nest built right by the window going up to DH's cave. Every time DH would go up to his office, this wonderful little hummer would spray this window with a white milky liquid. This is a 5'x4' window. There are two stacked. She gets both windows. To high up for us to clean. I will not move the nest. She is lucky I am a hummingbird lover. They build these nest in fig vine. At the top of the courtyard the vines starts to hang down. That is where they build their nest. When it is windy the nests swing back and forth. This is a photo of a pair early last year. They were much further down he fig vine than normal. I got on a ladder and took this photo. Scary, because I have a balance problem.
Sharon, That is so cute!
Sweet little girl duc!
Duc, that hummer is adorable.
It feels like spring around here,
ANHU are jousting, flashing and looping.
Most of the activity is in huge wild berry patches out back,
however they do come around and sip at the nectar bar,
watch some TV, some small talk and poof--- doing what
hummers do best -- living life at a hundred miles an hour.
Little female taking her time sipping at our rather
gaudy but prepared feeder. Still have a heat lamp
attached and ready if necessary. No use taking it down
till March-- never trust the weather out here-- just when
everything wants to leaf and blossom, old man Freeze
shows up and spoils the party.
Am enjoying seeing all your hummers. Don't expect to see any here until mid April. Too bad as I really miss their activity.
Donna
Nice shots guys!
Great action shot, duc. Exorcist hummingbird.
Wonderous to see in the time of the cold and the dark here. Thanks dirt and duc!
I am getting my feeders out Wednesday. I swear I heard one this morning. I also have an apparatus that holds various items for them to make their nests. I will get that out also.
You GO GIRL SKW!
dahlianut. You need to come down here and thaw out. I have had as lung infection so I am way behind inside the house and in the garden. 60+ degrees all this week and next. Of course today I helped a neighbor prune her roses. Her husband usually does it and he is ill. LOL...As I was walking toward the last two roses I spotted the four trunk palm tree that had not been touched for a long time. My ADD jumped right in and the next thing this poor neighbor knew I was under this large low palm and cutting off fronds like a crazy woman. I looked at her and her eyes had glassed over. I think she thought I had gone mad and was taking down her palm. Well in 20 minutes it was a magnificent specimen of what it should look like. Had at least 6 pups and was so entangled, anything would have looked better. If I must say so myself, it looks magnificent. You all know how much fun that is to fix something that only takes about 20 minutes.
I am so there. Have I mentioned that I deadhead others dahlias when visiting whether they like it or not? Just like 'Have gauntlets; will prune your roses"! You're soooooooo good.
No I am not good, crazy. The whole neighborhood laughs about my ADD. I will go out to water a pot and the next thing you know I have watered and washed down the whole neighborhood. At LEAST I know I have a problem.. LOL. No politics....
I TOO have a problem. I remove everyone's snow from the neighbourhood. In fact you might say...um....errr.... well.. I actually steal their snow and dump it on my garden. I know I should turn myself in but apparently if you steal other people's snow here you are a 'snow angel' and people smile and wave at you and it's ok. Funky weird but true.
You are worse than me. I only steal their leaves. But I have my mow and blow guys do it.
