Hi Folks,
I have alot of seeds and I have read in a few sites here and there that it would be good to store the seeds in the fridge. Other sites say cool and dry. I don't know anymore, where is the best place to store them. My gut instinct tells me that the fridge is cool but humid isn't it?
Thnaks for the info.

Do you store your seeds in the fridge?
Tina,
The American Horticultural Society has a book entitled plant propagation (~$35), the isbn # 0-7894-4116-0. I have lots of plant prop books and this is the easiest to understand and covers everything from annuals to trees. It covers all kinds of plant propagation stuff. The reason I'm telling you about the book is because different seeds are treated differently. Remember the old saying about opinions... everyone has one. I have got some REALLY good advice from folks and... Last year someone told me to put my seeds in my dehydrator to dry them faster and dryer. I dried tons and tons of seeds like the person suggested. I traded a good deal of the seeds away and tossed all my notes about the trades. In the spring when I tried to start the seeds the germination rate was very terible and I had no way of contacting the folks I had traded with to say I was sorry.
If you want to e-mail me with the kind of seeds in question I will look them up for you. And tell you what the book says.
Good luck
Yes, I keep all my seeds in the fridge. I have kept seeds over ten years this way with anywhere from 40-90% germination rates depending on the genus and species. Seeds stored in glass jars with tight fitting lids will not absorb moisture from the fridge. A cool room will also work. Heat and moisture will reduce the viability of your seeds. The most important thing is the proper drying of your seeds before they are stored. As you have heard from Tina-do not use a food dryer-the heat is not regulated well and most times you will end up frying your seeds.

Could I keep my seeds in the basement(finished with little moisture)like I do my tubors~~ in peat moss? Will that absorb any moisture?
