Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10b)

Sorry, I didn't realize that the open office link was posted earlier. I am rebuilding my back up internet computer and setting it up with umbunto linux and open office. We'll see how it goes. Just wanted to help save people some money if they would rather buy plants than Microsoft software. I am running old hardware. My theory on computers is that they keep getting bigger, faster and cheaper. I buy them a part at a time and keep some spare parts. Most of my hardware is from the bf, a computer programmer and friends with a computer biz.

It is cold here, 27'F. Freezing rain is on it's way for Christmas afternoon. I am only walking to the neighbor's, so no big deal for me. I feel bad for the people planning to drive.

I am impressed by everybody's home improvement projects. I have been fixing things up here, also. I am tired of half painted walls and half tiled floors. (But it beats unwashable chalky white paint and worn wall to wall carpet over unsealed concrete floors.) I am practicing home improvement with freecycle finds, saving for my dream house, yard and rototiller.

Back to the wintersowing forum to learn how to plant my seeds once they arrive! I am multitasking while doing laundry and baking cheesecakes and biscotti. Took the easy way out with my Christmas baking, but may make a few more things for New Years. Work and the weather is keeping the bf in NJ this Christmas, hoping to see him on New Years. My dog, Tiffany, is hoping for roast duck, her fave!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Pinging is definately the word for that sound TCS!

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Garden.. That one of my dreams. A tiller. How I want one so bad. Mayeb one fo thes e days. friend husband coems and brings his now when he gets a chance , but it not enough.

Oh another baker and cook. Duck sounds lovely. : )

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

If ya lived closer Ella I'd let ya use mine when ever ya needed!

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10b)

Hate that pinging sound, hope you and your family are safely home and off the roads. I also hope your phones and power are more reliable than mine during storms.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

hubby is out, when you run your own business and your the only employee, when you need parts you gotta go get them yourself, and he's doing the last of the christmas shopping stuff while he's out...now I don't celebrate christmas personally, however he brought me the stocking stuffers he got for the kids...I'm going back to the store after the kids go to bed...we definately have a difference of opinion on what a 'stocking stuffer' is...he got toothe brushes...shaving cream...toothepaste...deodorant....that's not stocking stuffers!

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

What Trina.. Ya mean ya wouldn't get otu ther e and work it for me. LOL hahahahahah

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

LOL Trina some people actually like getting that stuff in their stockings. I know two young men who want to see razor blades in theirs. A friend's sister is hoping to new cleaning stuff in hers the small size to see how she likes them.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

yeah but kenny's 13 and well puberty still hasn't caught up with him! so what's he need shaving cream for?...that stuff will still go in but come on where's the candy? maybe a cd, or mandy saw a necklace she liked and austin and Kenny both need a new watch, they want the kind with the stopwatch for cross country track since they are both in that

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

That the kidn of stuf f we got in ours and an orange in bottom of toe of sock. We didn't have fancy stockings and if e was really lucky we got pie e fo candy and maybe liek dolla r store toy in it.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Hahhahahahaa remmebr when my son finaly got to that age and starte d puttign that kind a stuf f in his stocking. remmebr when he opene dit all up he said I finally gettoign the manly man stocking .

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

kenny and amanda dollar store gifts would be good, but austin and blake work on everyone's bike's (austin is awesome at it blakes just leraning) so maybe some small tools like chain breakers, or master links...and we have an all night skate for kids here on New Year's Eve...I could go over and buy thier tickets tomorrow and put them in the stockings cause they are all already asking if they can go

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

tools though Austin and Kenny probably have everything ever made, because when they are not messing with bicycles Austin Builds cars and Kenny builds Motorcycles....can you tell those 2 can't wait to drive?

Southborough, MA(Zone 6a)

Tcs- nice paint job on the bathroom. Now that I have my kitchen done I'm contemplating painting my smaller bathroom next week. I'm a glutton for punishment!

Ella- salt cravings with the Pringles may really be sugar cravings. Pringles have a sweet undertone, if you chew it slowly you can taste it. It breaks down easily into simple sugars, so watch out!

Trina- I put blush my daughters stocking, and I've put in tooth brushes before (they liked them). I think if you mix them with a few toys or electronic things, the toiletries are fine. I often remind my kids that when I was a kid we took a large tube sock and hung it up, and got a big orange in the toe along with hard candy that stuck to the inside of the sock (yuck!). Things are so different in one generation. My kids are getting stocking stuffers like cd's and dvds. Along with the new cheap electric toothbrushes :)

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

regardin our weather... jsut checked the forecast.. .will be warming over night, up to about 38, but 40 tomorrow... so we should be all rain in a few hours.... that's good -- will help melt the snow we got today.... it's ironic, this mornign i kept hearing of "flood warnings" and i'm thinking what the heck cuz we havent had much precip at all.... well now it makes sense.

Last winter, i htink it was... we had heavy snows, then it warmed up and all melted and our streets and creeks were all flooded due to so much water... i remember it was right after christmas.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

thanks patricia... I am really happy the way the bath turned out.
I took my time and had no one crowding me out.

I'm thinking i'd like to spruce up my bed room too.... I'd like one bold wall. and i'm thinking of taking that color and make a border - about chair rail height, then a different shade under that.

the walls are currently a Grayish Lavender [depending on how the light hits it] ... keep that up top .... do a nice navy as the accent wall and border, then under that, do a bluish gunmetal. I think that would look fabulous. I have denim curtains and bed spread. ... but will I ever get around to doing it?

When you get done, how about coming to my house and doing mine?!? It really needs an overhaul.

Vashon, WA(Zone 8a)

Hiya guys, we just came out to Montana for Christmas, so I can see my 2 sons back home from Navy duty. It's cold@!x&! Already finding a few distractions by shopping for gardening books at B&N, and Silverhill seeds for a few new bulby things. Where are they all going to go? (But it's so much fun looking through catalogues on line, on paper, wherever). I love coming back to this thread cause there's so many of you who are seed nuts like I am. Trina I know what you mean about growing things outside of your zone. My poor greenhouse is full of bougainvillea, hibiscus, plumeria, even a bird of paradise. Plus the new perennial poppies I just started. More under the lights indoors. Ain't this great?

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

yeah that stuff is still going in the stockings but that's all he was gonna put in them! need some stuff besides just toiletries...and yes as a kid I use to get oranges too from my grandmother she also use to always put nuts in our stockings too, until finally one year we had to break down and tell her the thought was appreciated but 4 of us 6 grandkids are allergic to nuts! Nuts stopped, then she asked me once since she didn't have enough oranges that year if I liked Mangos, heck yeah...so up until she died 3 years ago she use to send me a case of mangos for christmas...I miss that!

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

another thing I have been wanting to do for a LONG time is... make box cornices.
I'm thinking I can use my denim curtains [maybe using some to make a headboard too, since i dont have one]
and get cream colored 'blackout' thermal panels. I think the blue and cream would look awesome... especially if i went with the blue accented walls.

On "Do it yourself" network, i found a do it yourself project for making the cornice. I have four windows, but at least they are the narrow ones. [not like a huge bay or anything]

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Piggy Mail call for today!:

Just one

JXTiger. you are here. : )

Figure evrybody is out and busy, btu just happene d to think abotu somethign in the middle of a soap opera.

LeBug think it was you that said you put them monkshood hood in an ice cube. This ran through my mind. Even though ya through them cube s out on the ground. It doe s take tiem for them to melt. You also have liquid enterign the seeds. You just have water that could or maybe not drown the embryo in there. I was just wonderign what would happen if you got you some pottign soil mixe d it with water, put the mix in yoru cube trays nd then aded the seed before you froze it. Not bury the sed deep, but just say liek if you planting in a regular pot. Just somethign that crosse d my mind.

Don't midnme cuz I always thinking outside of the box. LOL : )

Chuckling at Cheles comment about Oklahoma not getting snow.. it's her fault that they received 10 inches today!! LOL.. Be safe and stay home, cause those Okies are NOT good at driving in snow.. I know..I lived there for 10 years!

She and I basically traded places.. I moved here to Iowa from Oklahoma (Cheles, I lived in Spencer, NE of OKC..have several friends in Edmond!) in August this year and I'm having to figure out what to do for WSing in a colder climate.. I did WSing last winter in Okla.. and I didn't start them till February. Had great success..but just remember to put the jugs in shade when the heat of the day starts to pick up or they'll fry. I lost a couple to that and a few to a cold snap.. I didn't bother watching for seeds that were delicate :)

Merry Christmas everyone.. have a safe and wonderful holiday!
Chris

Edmond, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh thanks Chris! I guess it is my fault that we were just hit with a foot of snow along with drifts due to the horrendous winds out here!! hee hee!! Yes we definitely have a white Christmas and my girls think it is the best one ever!! They are now forever in love with Oklahoma. Thanks for sharing about WS out here, I will wait until Feb and definitely set in the shade....I have a covered patio in the backyard facing south, so figured it would be perfect for WS'ing. Boy are you right about the drivers.....they don't plow down here (like up north) and people are off the roads all over....roads closed.....a time to stay in and safe....perfect for Christmas!!!

Chris....I started WS in January in Ohio, right after the new year. I would put out a few jugs every other week as I had time.....through april. My backyard there was in the north so they were never in direct sunlight. I had great success as well, but never had to move them. :-) If you ever get back down here....let me know! :-)

Merry Christmas everyone!!

It real has been the best Christmas of all!

I ha d been offlien last night as the rains and wind ha d been goign on here sinc e yesterdya and all night.

Well my phone rang and it wa s my son. We had just a coupel of minutes. The thingy he wa s using to call didn't keep us conencte d long, btu it wa s long enough for Christmas greetings and while I ha d sent soem boxes to soldiers to a coupel different group and ha d sent some boxes to my son one for him and soem for thos e in his area with no mail or boxes.

They ha d said when i poste d that they probably wouldn' have made it, a s i wa spast the date by several days, but miracle s do happen and they arrive d on Christma s Eve for mail call for the soldiers. he was tellign me of the differnt oen s that had had no mail that was openign the boxes sent and how they was busy sharing them.

He said they wa s actign like kids , of cours e it didn't register to him that while he as busy talkign to me that he wa s busy munchign on goodie s in my ear too. LOL

One medic that had had no mail go tto open one box he was tellling me adn they was havign to go to another area and they had taken the box in the vechile with them and three of them goign to that plac e was busy sharing and munching away from the box.

So while we celebrate with our friend s and familie s today, stop and take a moment to say a prayer and a gift of thanks for all who serve us so unselfishly and that will be missing there familyie s today.

Ther e really is a Santa Claus Virginia and he brough tme a precious phone call this year.

Love, Peace , Joy and Happiness to all for today adn evryday

I just did take a minute to thank our troops and wish them a Merry Christmas my thoughts are with them today :) If it wasn't for them we would have a different life today and not be safe in our homes on Christmas Day :)

Have a Merry Christmas Ella I'm sure you are on cloud nine now that you got to talk to your son and you should be you know he is alright :)

Ella that loot that is coming in my little piggy baggies is yours for Christmas and what I get here from now on is yours too I'lll be sending it in when I send the seeds not sure how much more is coming in yet :) I'll give it a week then send it :)

Merry Christmas to eveyone :) I'm spending the day with Tony and my Son's family this Christmas I really feel like I have a grandson now I'm so happy and excited I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to bond with him being away from him for so long but the last couple of years has enabled me to do that, I finally feel whole with my grandson and my son all I've ever really wanted out of life, Tyler was an important key to that :)

Merry Christmas ;-)) May everyone have a peaceful and safe holiday!
