Because of faded writing or kicked away markers, I have some lilies that I can't identify. Here's a white one with just the faintest tinges of pink or lilac around the edges.
Lily ID Needed, Please.
I almost bought both Silver Elegance and White Stargazer. Neither one is pure white. Silver Elegance and White Stargazer both have some gold in the center, and White Elegance has spots. Rio Blanca is unfamiliar to me, so that's the other possibility.
Donna
Donna, your lily does not look like mine. Do Silver Elegance & White Stargazer have more yellow than the amount of yellow that's in the lily I posted above? I also got these from B & D. I've added pages in Plantfiles for these, but can't post the photos if I have them mixed up.
If you have photos of any of these, can you please post them in PF? Thanks
Silver Elegance is in Plantfiles.

And so is White Stargazer:

Todd Boland's closeup of White Stargazer is particularly nice:

Also of note...I understand 'Silver Elegance' to be a strain of lilies....meaning similar, but not identical.
I think you're quite right about that Tracey. This one of those things you are really knowledgable about that I haven't quite goten - what makes a lily a strain vs. - what, a clone? How much variability can there be in a strain?
I think it must be Rio Blanca or Silver Elegance. I couldn't find another photo of Silver Elegance on the web.
The photo of Rio Blanca that B & D lily provides seems to have much more rippled edges to it.

Pirl, wow, what a beautiful photo. The pink on mine is barely discernable, unlike yours. What I am sure about is that I've only ever purchased 5 white lilies, the 4 I listed above, and Casa Blanca. So unless someone sent me the wrong bulbs, it's got to be one of those.
I was really surprised when I saw the pink blush around the edges, as I certainly never ordered any bulbs that were supposed to have that.
Where did you purchase the bulbs and was this their first year?
B & D. Yes, they were planted in the fall of 08.
Would you consider sending them the photo and mention the names of the white ones you purchased so they can try and help solve the mystery?
Yes, I thought about that this morning. Maybe that's what I'll do.
I only have White Stargazer, but it has absolutely no pink or lilac on it. And the plants are shorter than most orientals.
This was a pretty short lily, maybe only 30" tall, in it's first year.
Hi Stormy,
A while back I sent Bob and Diana an image in an email because I couldn't identify a lily they had given me as a gift. The same day they identified it as Acapulco. I promptly bought three. I'll bet they could help you.
Stormy, this is the only other image of Silver Elegance I could find. I remember than Wayside offered it years ago, but I haven't seen it since.

Donna, Now that's completely different than the photo of Silver Elegance that's in PF. The one in PF is completely white, except for a tiny bit of yellow/green in the center. This one has red spots. Maybe as magnolialover said, Silver Elegance will have many variations. The form of this last lily you've posted looks very much like mine.
The photo looks exactly like the one from years ago. There was a "Elegance" series, because I ordered pink, but was sent the wrong lily. I do think you've found your lily.

I am amazed and impressed with the subtlties of white lilies after reading these exchanges.
It looked like Casablanca to me.Goes to show you.
Its a beauty, hope your id id successful.
A non-subscribing DGer from Tasmania wrote to me concerning this Lily. They suggested that it is OL "Expression". There are not many very good photos of Expression on the web. But those that I have seen seem to be pretty close. Does anyone have a good photo of Expression?
Thanks, Moby. That is pretty darn close. What do you think? Which parts are the anthers? How was the dip???
A little smelly..... ;)
I think it's as close as we're going to get, can't think of anything else that has such pale pink. But I'm not the definitive answer on anything ~ lol
Anthers are the fuzzy, dangle-y things with pollen. The pollen looks like it's about the same color and the stigmas look the same.
Well, I suppose that someone sent me the wrong bulb. I always buy at least 3 of each type of bulb and always plant them together. This summer I'll pay closer attention and see if there are any others like it nearby. It could just be that an error was only made with one of the 3 bulbs. I must say that the pink blush on the lily has intrigued me. I'm happy with Expression as an ID, but will consider it a NOID if I ever go to trade it. Thank you everyone who offerred their comments to help solve this mystery!
