What are your winter plans?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i can not be the only one that gets annoyed at the grocery store:)

i was actually a bit nervous, even though it was on the phone.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

What if it's a REALLY good offer? would you ever consider moving to CA?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's natural, Bill.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

California is a different ‘state of mind’, it’s nice, but it’s different from the NE. Even the soil is different. ’Ya do what you gotta do…

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

no jen we would not - mil turned white when she heard about it and where it was - i would be surprised if it gets to any job offer anyway

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Feel free to use me as a reference - hee hee. ^_^

Thomaston, CT

Not sure I could live in S. Cal---lots of traffic & weather catastrophes---N. Cal might be nice.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

san jose is where this place is located

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Lots of high tech companies in San Jose, not as hot as So. Cal, but still dry and you do get earthquakes now & then. - beautiful area.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I get upset at the grocery store, Bill, but mostly it's in the register lines. If someone's cart is blocking my way, I just move it out of the way and go by.

I love California's landscape. Well, I love lots of landscapes, come to think of it!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

to dry out there - good place to visit - i love our 4 seasons here in the NE

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

'Ya cant beat the 4 seasons! Vivaldi time! ♫ ☺!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Too dry, I agree. Definitely good visiting.

What to do in NYC with a 14 year old boy? I'm thinking of taking DS into the city this weekend. He just wants to go see, hang out and do stuff. I don't want to spend money and don't want to do the tourist thing. I thought I'd take him to Canal St. Then, maybe walk up Broadway. He hasn't really been in the city since he was 5 or so, so it'll all be new to him.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

times square so he can place it on new years eve might be fun - great italian restaurant a couple blocks away i think the name is carmines - right near the theater district

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Museum of Natural History is a really cool place & you got the planetarium right there too!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

City will be packed this weekend!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

We've been to the Nat Hist. Museum many times. We're hoping to avoid tourists, so we won't be going to Times Square either. He wants to be "cool", so I'm thinking Village or something.

Thomaston, CT

Sounds cool----I'd pick the Botanical Gardens!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Street vendor NYC pizza, if there still is such a thing, and something cool in the Village. My vote.

Hard Rock Cafe?

I have no idea where this is, but my grandson would love to go to The Phoenix. I guess it's a huge comic book store? They hold Yugioh and Naruto tournaments there.

I'd pick the Botanical Gardens too, Robin, but probably not with a 14 y.o. No matter what great kids they are I'd probably be ready to strangle him after he said I'd seen that poinsettia 20 times already.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

The Botanical Gardens are on my list! But that's just for me. As soon as my membership card comes in, I'm going! Anybody wanna come with?

Wow, street vendor pizza. Well, I never saw one. But he definitely wants to get some of those vendor nuts. I'll take some pics when we go.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Maybe the street vendor pizzas are no longer there. But I recall them as being great.

Can't wait to see pics. Especially if you go to the Village. I haven't been there in 40 years.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

NO.. no street pizzas about lately.. but there's plenty of good pizza.. YES.. It's changed alot in 40 years.. some for the good.. and others not so.. much of the character ..and the characters have been steralized away.. Luckily there are still holdouts.. and pockets.... you'll still love it.. unless your parking..

Nice view Gordon!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Gordon, you're right. Sterilized away...

What a fantastic rooftop garden! What does it look like this time of year?

Now it looks like it's supposed to snow on Saturday and we're thinking of postponing... : (

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Great view, Gordon! NYC has changed over the years - mostly for the better. Kids should not have to see people shooting up as I often did.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

No street pizza vendors???? Well, I'm not going then. And that wasn't 40 years ago.

The next night after the street vendor pizza, we went to Mama Leones, which I guess is now closed? Anyway, I liked the street vendor pizza better. I'm thinking this was about early 90s? But I could be wrong.

I recall there were a few of them. Why aren't they there anymore?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Probably health laws.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I don't recall street pizza vendors. Just about every other food, though.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Looks like now we might not be going. The storm coming in is getting bothersome on the radar. : (

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Should be here in the afternoon, probably get windy before that. Manhattan when it's windy is like being in a wind tunnel! (lol!)

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Ugh, I know.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Russ said he thinks where we ate the pizza was on Canal St., in Little Italy? Now I don't have a clue, but that's what he recalls. It was hot and they had pizza in a glass case, probably 3 or 4 full pies. So probably from a shop nearby, since I don't recall them having anyway to cook it there. And there were a lot of street vendors there, I remember hot dogs, and sausages.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Sounds like the Feast of San Gennaro, an outdoor festival run annually in Little Italy.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yum!

We're definitely not going to NYC tomorrow because of the storm. For all that, we'd better get more than a few flakes!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I think you made the best decision, considering the storm is 'bearing down'.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yep. They're saying we'll only get 2-6" up here, but the city's getting more. Looks like you'll take the cake! They're calling for blizzard conditions out in Suffolk! Stay warm!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I know, we get wind here that sounds like a freight train and shakes the house sometimes. Mix that with snow and 'ya get 'white-out'! I'm going grocery shopping early so I can get back before dark. We needed the snow, it's been too dry here without a snow cover.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Not one flake here yet and it's 6:30. I'm thinking it's gonna skip us.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very light here. 6-10 predicted.
