Direct sew now?

I'm going thur my seeds,getting ready to toss some of these babies out into the cold and wet. I received some cosmos Dbl. Click in trade last year,waited until March to direct sew and got a VERY POOR gemination so I bought some more with direct sewing in mind for now.Also had same results w/ coreopsis Quills and Thrills so purchased some more of those with plans to do the same. Let me hear about your winter sewing experiences with these two.

I"ve had good success winter sowing Cosmos and Coreopsis. we are not the same zone, and they were not "Double Click" or 'Quilts & Thrills' .

I'm sure I have some that do come back from fallen seeds, so you could probably do either or... but if you did not have much luck direct sowing, why not winter sow them.... less chance of the seeds washing away or getting eaten by birds or critters.

I think I will WS them.Maybe they will do better now than waiting until spring.

I'd wintersow them too. Once you get them established in your beds they'll probably volunteer yearly.

I did it this morning along with some nigella,scabiosa and bachelor buttons. Hopfully the chinese house,flax,Tx lupine and linarias from this spring will come up with them too.

What kind of containers did you use? Those eggs crates? Did you use some kind of lid?

I did sew some things in egg cartons(no lids) but I also direct sewed some yesterday along with blue bread poppy and Splish Splash larkspurs in the kitchen door garden.

In my egg cartons I sewed:
Poppies:
Fruit Punch
Jelly Beans
Black Peony
Lauren's Grape
Thai Silk:
Champange Pink
Rose Bush
Fire

Nigella:
Hot Fudge Sundae
Chocolate Sundae

and some others that I just did yesterday but I forgot to take my journel to the GH w/me so I'll have to remember today when I go out.
