Chinese Seeds for You
You got mail
Hi Jianhua, I would be interested in trading for your winter sweet, chinese scholar tree, blackberry lily, tarmarisk and fragrant plantain lily seeds. I also have a friend you would be interested in medicinal/traditional herb seeds, if you have any. Please e-mail me for my list and what seeds you are looking for. I have a nice variety of tropical seeds. Thank you for sharing. Deborah
Jianhua, you've got mail.
you got mail Jianhua!
Hi garden friend Evert from Espoo Finland,
what a good picker you are!my favorites will let you plunder away.*Smile* here is a brief about the plants which you are asking for from me.
four o'clock--which in China we called it as 'zimoli'(purple
jasmine).it has a particuliar practical use:open the little
black ball which looks like a rabbit manure, the white powder in it will appear.it can be used to cover your black dots on your face, and, of course, if you do have some.
tamarisk--which in China we call it as 'sanchunliu', it means three -springs (in a year) willow, though it is not a kind of willow.it is so called maybe due to it blooms three times a year.this tamarisk is very hardy and endures -20 degrees C.it is a good stuff used for Bonsai.
ginseng--which is China's No.1 medical herb.its root's part is just like a small human figure, which is soaked into liquor and made into ginseng-liquor for drink.this kind of drink , it is said that 'if you have illtrouble,it will get rid of it;if not, it will strengthen your health'.besides, its little metal-bright color berries look very lovely.
lotus--which is listed first ten chinese flowers, together withprunus, peony, chrysanthmum, orchid, rose, rhododendron,
camellia, sweet scented osmanthus and narcissis.its flowers are very big and showdy.but one thing needed to pay attention:it should be planted in water.
blackberry lily-- actually, it is not a kind of lily.the herb looks like the iris. but the flowers of the blackberry lily's are red with yellowish spots, and its flowering season is in summer.
gingko--i do have one, but , though i have cultivated for six years or so,it does not have a single seeds so far.by the way, the naked big white seeds are not convinent to post.
well, so much for now.see you!
Hi Evert,
i can't imagine it that you are only 13 years old.i heared of this from a good garden friend of mine who is from Michigan, the USA.tell me if you are still a student. if so, i will CONTRIBUTE some of my seeds to you without any attached conditions.after all, i am a teacher--king of kids.
Be seeing you!
Hiya
I was wondering what type of tree paeony you have?
I have been desperately seeking P. Suff, Rockii.
Please get back to me, one way or the other, put my mind at rest! -
Edna

Re:
Hi Edna
the peony i refer to is' Paeonia suffruticosa Andr.'the obvious characteristic of it is the stems look like fire-burned ones.
i only cultivate two plants of this, from which i get about
30 seeds.
the region of Luoyang(one hundred kilometers away from mine)is the homeland of peonies, where there are scores of varieties of the peonies.every year the mixed quality seeds
will be available to gardeners at home and abroad.if needed,
i can help you to contact with the dealers.
this kind of plant is too delicate to grow. only when it meets the following conditions does it grow well.
spring season:draught,less rain
summer season:more rain, cool
winter season:colder
by the way,the peony and the prunnus will be chosen one as China's nation flower.
Hi garden friends the above,
check the emails to you,please.
you have mail.
Jianhua, yes I'm still a student... for many years urgh. We have to go to school here in Finland, food is also free there, but I really don't like it always. :) My school website:

Hello, would you please tell me a little more about the use of Belamcanda as a medicinal herb? Thank you, John

By the way, I sent one letter to the states in Thursday, it arrived today! Gosh, we have kinda fast post here :)
John: the root tuber of belamcanda is commonly-used as a chinese medicinal herb.Function:relieving internal heat and fever ,moistening throats, reducing sputum, spreading blood, diminishing swelling.Treatment:tonsillitis, pharyngitis
arthritis, toothache, etc.recent years it is used as an anti-flu.(for reference only)
Hello Jianhua
I'm looking for woody plants suitable for bonsai... what are you looking for? :)
Hi Razzberry!
the tamarisk and the wolfberry are two wonderful kinds of hardy woody plants for bonsai.but you should have patients waiting a couple of years to make them into living art works.by the way, i have collected
some pictures of the bonsai from one of China's gardening
magazines.if you are interested in the seeds and pictures, please contact with me.i would like to exchange
the experiences on bonsai as well as seed trade.
i am looking for rare native veggies(planning to have an international veggie garden of my own next year) and used stamps on flowers, trees and birds.any corner from the global village will be welcome.
Thanks!
Hello Jianhua, thank you for the information on Belamcanda.
I have a question about a rose I am trying to find. It is called:
XING HONG SHAO YAO
which I am told is just the pronunciation for the real Chinese characters. It means " apricot-pink Chinese herbaceous peony".
Do you have any information at all about this rose? Would love to find a plant.
Thank you, John
Pardancanda : the AHSY has nothing to do with a rose.it is a pink garden variety of the herbal peony (paeonia lactiflora).
basic data about the herbal peony. A perennial herb of 60--100cm high, native to China,Japan and Korea, etc;flowers large, showy, ranging in color from white or yellow to pink or red,up to 15 cm across, with 5--10 petals and numberous stamens;flowering season, from Apr to May;commonly used in chinese herbal medicine. in Loyang(Henan province),Heze(Shandong Province)and Bozhou(Anhui Province),the herbal peony is largely cultivated as an ornamental,or for medical use(the roots). a garden friend of mine has planted some of this kind.i will go and see if he has got the seeds.
Jianhua, thank you very much for this information. John
John: i've been there, but sorry to tell you--No seeds found.
the friend told me as soon as the flowers faded, he took them off in order to get the high-quality medical herb (the roots).the herbal peony's propagation
is usually by splitting the roots in autumn.(attn:never in spring,or it would not flower to the end of its life).you called the XHSY as a rose,it is somewhat reasonable, because its flowers are indeed as showy as the roses.i am still hunting for the seeds for you.please rest a little.):
Jianhua, thank you for checking with your friend. I'll wait to hear from you about the seeds, your search is appreciated!
There is another rose, XIAO FENG CHAN YUE, supposed to be white with a red edge. Is this one familiar to you? Or is this perhaps another peony improperly listed under roses??
John

John: it's my pleasure.about the XFCY,i only act as a 'blindman to feel the elephant'.in Chinese, xiao feng means breeze;chan,to round;yue, moon.think of it, sometimes
when a wind comes,a beautiful orange ring will
appear round the moon.so,the XFCY must be a white flower with an orange edge.and whether the XFCY is a rose or a peony,it remains a question because of no context.
Thank you, Jianhua, that is a lovely image. It occurs to me that if seeds of the original plant mentioned, that is, XING HONG SHAO YAO, they would probably not come true, as the plant is most likely a hybrid. Or might it be a native species, which would come true from seed? I wonder if there is any way your friend might be willing to send me a root of the XHSY peony; I believe this is permissable if there is no soil at all, nor any leaves. I would of course be happy to pay whatever expenses would be incurred, as well as send a trade of seeds or something of interest. Feel free to e-mail me privately if you prefer. Thank you, John

Thank you, MaVieRose, there are some incredibly beautiful peonies pictured on those pages. Now I really cannot wait until spring. Do peonies grow well out there in California? I imagine you might get enough cold for them, as you are in zone 8. John
