I flew home from Juneau last summer with my BIG hunting knife that I forgot I loaded in my backpak before the flight and got through all security with it. Hmmmm I wonder how safe our skies really are. After Detroit we now know.
Weird Weather of '09 #14 Baby it's Cold Outside....
I can tell you that the one that got confiscated had made many trips on planes.

We were just out whale-watching in gorgeous, sunny, 55-degree weather. Must have seen a dozen, though they were quite far out.
These ones are indeed greys, but they are headed from Alaska to the Baja.
We also have a year-round resident pod here in Depoe Bay.
I have my own theories on whale travel. I think the females go to Hawaii and get bred and teach their livelier yearlings to feed while in the warm waters of Hawaii. But the teenagers they leave behind to get away from them. Hence the pods of many whales in northern waters during winter. All they do is PARTY!
I learned the hard way: search teenage son's pockets for pocketkinfe and place it in checked luggage before going through security at the airport. At least if he'd had it in his backpack rather than on his person, he wouldn't have set off the metal detectors. At the moment he set off the buzzers, I was taking the urn with my dad's ashes through with the death certificate, and the x-ray person yells out, "Are these remains?" I think everyone behind us in the line was wishing they were in a different line. I will say though, that the airport people helped me to get back through security after I'd left my purse with DH when I went to mail the knife and had neither I.D. nor plane ticket with me anymore, just the receipt for the dang mailed knife. The woman who had checked the "remains" and certificate for authenticity personally came over and waved me through.
"I have my own theories on whale travel"
I fly a lot and think I shall refrain from causing trouble ......but there is soooooo much I could do with that statement. (and I am a big girl myself..)

Nice pictures Sofer and Ginger. Whales are such incredible creatures, gives me goose bumps when they look at you. I've seen the pod at Depoe Bay several times from the road, it's more fun if you can get close. Used to do that in CA.
We don't have snow, just lots of rain. It got over 50 today!!!
Wishing you all a very Happy New Year!
Thought it only right that we start out the new year with a
