A nice day to sit by the fire and visit... Come sit a spell

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, Crow, I feel so badly for you both. He IS too young...and noone should have to face that...but some do, unfortunately! I'll pray for you both. And do drop by the prayer request forum also, so many more people can pray with us!
Our county law enforcement only comes out here for urgent or emergency calls, unfortunately...fairly rural county. But I'm going to check on the house as often as I can. Unfortunately, I can't see the house from my yard, so it won't be nearly often enough. If anyone might be over there, I'll call them anyway. Just to let them know, if nothing else. If it turns out that the woman was assaulted over there...well, I can't bear the thought of that going on.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Crow, I am so sorry, I hope all turns out well, God Bless you both.
Josephine.

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Crow, fifty-six is so young. I pray that God gives you the strength to do what needs to be done in the coming months. Please know that we are here for you. If you need to talk or need anything, just say so.
Veronica

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Another day to be thankful for all our blessings. Of all the things we can accumulate none of them matter. Good health is the most precious of all and is truly a gift from God.

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Well said LouC.......Crow,....our prayers are for you and your husband. No need to apologize for anything. Thank you for letting us know

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh, Crow, I am so sorry!!! I will be praying for you and your husband as well.

East of Nacogdoches, TX(Zone 8a)

This devastating news shakes us up. It's safe to say your DG friends will remain concerned and prayful for you Crow, and of course your husband and entire family. We'll think of you daily. Please pop in when you can.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Crowelli ~ I will hope you will keep in touch. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you and yours...

With the rain today I'm going to keep a log on this fire. It is supposed to be nicer for my weekend which is Sunday and Monday. Nicer I'm hoping... I am fencing. It is old and Pod & Stretch keep pointing out the weak areas so I am redoing the whole fence in cattle panels. We have an acre under fence for the pets. Cattle panels are not pretty but utilitarian and should last longer than me. The fence I am replacing was done in 1979 when we were young and able.

The white blood lily has been slow in opening and not much else in bloom. The red is a Gloxinia chic but the photo is fuzzy. My camera doesn't do well with red blooms. May have to put that on my Santa list. Naw, Santa says I'd best be happy with the greenhouse instead. I can do that.

Off to work... what's on your agenda today?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

My agenda is to put up the outside Christmas decorations, but it is sprinkling out there, I hope it stops, if not it is supposed to be very nice tomorrow, so maybe then.
Josephine.

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

crowellli, I am so sorry for what you and your husband have to go through. I know you will find the strength. Let us know how things are going when you have a chance.
It is a welcomed warmer day today. Hope to get cut down those mushy plants ...does your society garlic have a somewhat skunky/garlic smell when it freezes? Also will poke some holes in the leaf bags I collected in the neighborhood and hope I have some compost in the spring. Yes, also time to take down the scarecrow and put up the snowman.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Very skunky!!!! LOL DH comments on maybe a skunk in the neighborhood and I just nod agreement. 8 )))

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

I thought so too except I seem to smell it only near my walkway..Funny to blame it on that poor plant!

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

A very sloppy day today,.....too much so,... to think about doin' anything outside for long.........we're goin' to a movie instead! I'll wait til tomorrow to attend to the mushy plants! Man,...that fire feels good! Thanks Pod....hope you're not workin' too hard!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Work was absolutely crazy today! Working retail during Christmas is fun because it's always go, go, go, but sometimes the customers can be cranky! LOL So glad to be home and away from the insanity. DH picked some lettuce yesterday, so I think I'll have a little salad with my dinner tonight.

Need to put the ornaments on the tree and finish the decorations around the house. I think I'll do that tomorrow. Tonight, I think I'll just chill out.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

That skunk was back again tonight with a vengance. DH commented on it being quite strong, must be one in the area. If he knew it was the society garlic he would be grumbling till I dug it up.

All right WillisTx ~ how about a movie review? What did you see and did you enjoy it? How was the popcorn? 8 )

Stephanie ~ I noticed folks were weird acting today. Usually that happens at a moon change but maybe the weather was the cause.
I get so burned out and busy during the holidays at work that I have trouble caring about decorations around the house. I will enjoy y'alls Christmas photos if you want to post any and not worry with mine. We usually only take Christmas day off. I get so behind, I purchase Happy New Years card instead of Christmas cards. That way, if they are late, I won't feel so guilty.

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

HAHA
I thought people were kind of grumpy today, as I was doing my shopping. Only one check out boy out of 6 of the stores I was at was fun and animated.Maybe people are stressed about so much to do with little time and resources.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Grumpy...hmm, nobody came by the house, so it was just the two of us today. And I think we probably weren't much grumpier than normal...the weather might be getting on my nerves, so cold and drippy lately. Now, if I'd been Christmas shopping today...well, at this time of year, being in crowded stores, that can make people very grumpy.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Doing most of my shopping on-line and if they are out of state.....drop shipping. Somehow doesn't seem very personal....just an obligation,

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

We saw "Blind Side"....starring Sandra Bullock , Tim McGraw....a movie based on the true story of the rise from a poor situation to a great situation of Michael Ohar (sp) (pronounced Oar - like a boat oar). Mike Ohar is now a pro football player for the Balt. Ravens...drafted last year. An excellent movie and recommended!

Sandra was a good as ever....and McGraw surprised me how good an actor he was...did a good job. They play the "foster" parents of a young black male "Mike" - ( actor's name was Quintin Aaron - not sure about spelling of 1st name)..... who came from a terrible family background...with little education absorption....but strong moral fiber...who went on to play college football at Ol' Miss...and later Baltimore Ravens.....and some of the growing/adjusting pains....(of ALL the family).. during that time.

Hmmmm...grumpy people.....I could tell you some stories about that category.....I work for Wal Mart and experiencing the bad attitudes of some people is a nightly ritual....and I'm not talking about the associates of Wal Mart. I attribute the rudeness / indifference to the general disdain...so many people have towards "Wal Mart" ( I think because of the way WM has basically overrun most of "small-town USA"
and saturated the big cities too) Although I understand the resentment......I am baffled by the way some people express it by being outright hateful to WM employees.....as though they're(we're) responsible. Granted,....the economic situation of recent years....has caused the "fuse to be short"....but I believe too many of our Society have lost focus...of what really matters....of how to practice common respect for other people......uh oh,......I find myself on a soap box again............gotta step down before I get too far into the matter! They all need to go see this movie....maybe regain some insight on how we should treat one another. 'nuff said.

Still dreary, damp and foggy here this morning....what happened to the "good weather"? Weather predicters........you'd think they must work for Wal Mart (smile)

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I have worked retail and even when I am agitated about something in the store (Wallyworld), I always apologize to the associate telling them I'm sorry if there is an edge in my voice as I know they only work there and do not make the rules. I wait till I get home and take out my anger on DH. smirk hahahahah

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

At least it's not as cold as it has been the past few days. I say this because I'll have to spend a few days out among the calves looking for symptoms of Crinum poisoning. I'm still waiting for my fence man to get over the flu. Meanwhile the calves have made the yard their personal retreat. I gave up chasing them out of the yard when the fence developed more holes than a sieve. They are getting plenty to eat — still nursing (all less than 4 mos old), plenty of hay, food in the creep feeder and still some grass. Maybe the bulbs were sweet. I had 7 big fat Crinum 'Ellen Bosanquet' bulbs, s bunch of small offsets and 1 Crinum americanum growing in my front yard. They have been cropped level with the ground. Between the freezes and the calves, that takes care of my yard for the year. No more yard work this year. At least the frozen stuff will return in the spring.

How's that for grumpy? LOL.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

That didn't sound grumpy to me, it sounded caring.
Josephine.

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks for the boost, Josephine. I do love my little ones, but they can be frustrating as well. A few weeks ago, my DH was doing some repair work on the fence. While he was doing so, the cows and calves were walking the perimeter looking for weaknesses which they took advantage of later. We don't often give animals credit for their level of intelligence. :-)

Hey, Josephine. Just now looked at the birthday list. Happy Birthday. I remember last year that your family took you to Holiday on Ice in Grapevine. How will they ever top that?

Have a great day!

Christi

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you Christi, no they really can't top that, it was a milestone last year, just 71 this year, so no big deal.
I am getting a lot of good wishes form many people this year and that is the important thing.
Josephine.

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

I liked it better when there were daily postings of birthday alerts (usually by you, Josephine)
Happy Birthday!! many more to come I hope! Lee & Dee

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Adding my wishes, Josephine, that you have a very happy birthday and lots and lots of happy days in the years to come!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you Lee, Dee and Pat, I like the Birthday alerts too, but thought that doing my own might seem out of place.
Josephine.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

No, Jo. You see how dependent we are on you. That's your job. hahahaha

Today is also my favorite cousins BD and she is 71. My very best friend of 45 years will be 71 in January. Good number I would say.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Wow! 71 seems to be an excellent number, I think I will keep it.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Happy birthday Josephine! What a beautiful day to celebrate your birthday.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, bright warm and sunny, what more could we ask for?

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

A belated Happy Birthday Josephine.... sending my best wishes for a great year ahead and many more.

Quoting:
symptoms of Crinum poisoning
Bettydee ~ is there such a thing? Or were you just a'worrying? I had to chuckle, it almost sounded like your fence man got Crinum poisoning. Hope he gets better and doesn't share that flu with you.

LouC ~ taking it out on your poor husband ~ lol That is why men develop selective hearing. 8 )) I tell you, I think anyone that has worked retail will be far more patient as a customer. I tell many clerks that apologize for being new... not to worry. I am the best customer they can learn on.

Got home this evening and walked into a 70° greenhouse to be assailed by the scent of skunk. I put a pot of variegated society garlic in there as it is more tender. Whew! It was rank. I don't guess it needs to freeze to get obnoxious smelling. I got a remote thermometer to monitor the temps in the GH from the house. Just my curiousity while it is new.

Banked the fire today, the temperature has been pleasant...

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Josephine, Happy Birthday. Hope you had a syper nice day.

Pod, there is such a thing. Crinums produce a variety of alkaloids which are toxic to cattle. It's rarely fatal, but I couldn't find out how much has to be ingested to be fatal. The calves ate 8 big fat bulbs and their offsets. It's been like Grand Central Station around here so I don't know how many nor which calves were involved in this feast.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you Pod and Bettydee, wonderful day so far.

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

Happy Birthday (late) Josephine. 71??? You are so youthful I never would imagined. Hope your day was as lovely as the weather.
Anna

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you Anna, I am glad that I Iook younger than my age, but i am most grateful for my good health.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

You look much younger, Josephine!
About the place next door. The family that abandoned their cats seem to have brought their rooster back. It's been hanging around over there for more than a week. Oh well, the rooster is not a big problem. Now, if they bring the dogs back, I'm going to find out where those idiots live and pay them a visit! I've had it with all the problems!

Tomball, TX(Zone 9a)

Here is some Christmas cheer for you! This old beauty is ready for Christmas. -the plant I mean ( :
