What is winter soltice that I hear so many people mention on these forums?
Winter Soltice?
Dec 21-22 time frame. it's a half way point, where summer solstice is June 21-22
but with the holidays, who has time to WS at that time... so most of us wait til Jan/Feb time frame.
I googled it and here is the Wikipedia definition....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_solstice
The Winter Solstice occurs exactly when the earth's axial tilt is farthest away from the sun at its maximum of 23° 26'. Though the Winter Solstice lasts an instant in time, the term is also colloquially used like Midwinter to refer to the day on which it occurs. For most people in the high latitudes this is commonly known as the shortest day and the sun's daily maximum position in the sky is the lowest. The seasonal significance of the Winter Solstice is in the reversal of the gradual lengthening of nights and shortening of days.
... and it is the shortest daylight day of the year. The day that makes us want to celebrate as the daylight will soon grow longer and that will signify warmer temps and that means we can soon go back to playing in the dirt and wearing our favorite flip flops and ... need I say more?!! LOL Come on springtime!
You must like winter about as much as I do! I go into my "down" spirits from now until about April 1st.
"down' in the spirits? Naw ~ I don't drink... LOL
Sincerely, yes ~ it gets me down. I want to eat all the wrong food and sleep all the time.
Feels like I am getting ready to hibernate! 8 ))
But why April fools day?
