I have had indoor cats for my long adult life. I have kept a litter box even though we live in the country and the cats have a safe enclosed area where they can spend time outdoors. I find it a good way to monitor their health by observing the bathroom habits.
Currently, I have six cats at home. Two are 14 YO, two are 8 YO and two are 8 months old. As a result, I have two litter boxes at home. We keep another senior male cat at work. Because it is a public business, I keep two litter boxes there and am diligent in keeping them clean so there will be no odor. I have only used clay litters with no issues in the past. The weather here has turned surly and the demand on the stores' inventory of litter has been depleted. I needed something so purchased (far more expensive) scoopable litter. Thankfully, the cats don't seem to mind it.
Now this sounds like a dumb question but the container has no directions and I have NEVER used this type of litter in all these years. I put 4 inches of litter depth in the pan and have removed the clumps which are soiled. Does one ever change the litter? Do you just add to it?
My little old grey lady with the white tennis shoes would like to know!
A question from the keeper of the litter boxes...
