Insect eggs or parasite I.D.?

These look like some kind of insect eggs or perhaps some kind of parasite. I found them on gardenia leaves in my garden near Los Angeles. Each is about 1/8" long. Can someone I.D. them for me and let me know if they are harmful? Thanks!
